The same person @ work that I just bought a CZ75 (pre-B) from also has a Baikal .380 he's looking for info on. It's marked "IJ-70-380" along with what I'm guessing is the serial #. Quite good condition with one magazine. Any opinions on this particular model? Also would like info on approx.value and sources for sapre magazines.

thanx fella!

I've got the nickel version of the IJ-70 and the blued 9MM Mak version of the IJ-70. If its blued, its worth about $200, depending on condition. They do not import the Russian pistols anymore so they are getting scarce.

those are really common down here in Peru..the sell for 320 USD new (Well, the IZH-71H- which is the hi cap) and the one you are asking about is 270 USD new...check out Makarov.com, those guys are really great and you might find the info you need...

By the way, a Baikal is a Makarov, such as the norinco Makarov and the other makes (MAKAROv is a model)

1993-1995 several models of Russian commerical mfg. Makarov pistols were imported chambered for the 380acp or 9x18mm cartridges. There were standard 8rd and high capasity 12rd model pistols imported. The pistols chambered for the 380acp use the same mags as 9x18mm chambered pistols. The high capasity models were chambered for both cartridges and came with 12rd mags till the 1994 ban on high capsity mags passed. The last ones imported came with 10rd mags. The standard 8rd and high capasity 12rd models were imported with blue, nickel,or two tone finishes. There was also a special engraved anniversery model imported. All the Russian commerical Makarov pistols have adjustable rear sights.
I have two of the Russian makarov pistols one is marked IJ-70-17A 380 ACP and the other IZH-70 CAL 380 ACP. Both are made by Izhevskiy Mechanicheskiy Zavod=IMEZ and imported by Big Bear Arms. Both have black grips marked "Baikal" on the bottom of the side of them.
One is still new in the box and the other I have shot 1000+ rds through it. It has functioned 100% with every one of a dozen brands of ammo and reloads I have fired in it. I have the 2 mags that came with it plus 14 surplus Makarov mags from 3 countries. All mags have functioned 100% in it and a Bulgarian 9x18mm Makarov. Neither Makarov pistol has every failed to chamber, fire,or eject any ammo I have fed it.

Not really.

Non-rimfire pistols from Russia can't be imported. I wish they could, 'cause there are a lot of cool ones.

Secondly, magazines with a capacity of over ten rounds, manufactured after 1994, cannot be sold to civilians in the US. :(

That is really sad...just one little question..how do you do with glocks?? Can you have the 15 round magazines oir does glock make special 10 round mags for the US??

Well, for one, the .380/blowback Glocks aren't even sold in the US.

And for two, yes, there are "post-ban" magazines that pistols come with. They're usually plugged to 10 rounds, some are single stack.

You can buy pre-ban magazines, but the supply is limited and the prices have gone up and up as it dwindles.

17 round 9mm Glock mag? $50-100 US, depending on the condition.

15 round 10mm Glock Mag? $80-$120 US, depending on condition.

Artificially inflated prices due to government manipulation in the market.

Sad, really.

Baikal is a name used for a lot of Russian arms exports from pistols to shotguns to rifles. The IJ-70 designation means that its an adjustable sighted russian makarov. A very nice gun. I believe they were imported int he early 90's or somesuch. At least thats when i picked mine up. You can get LOADS of accessories at http://www.makarov.com You can change to 9mm mak (recomended), and magazines run about 10 bucks each. Just do a search on "Makarov" here if you are in any doubt as to how nice these guns are.
