I had a full size carry comp in 45acp. Never had a problem with it that wasn't self-induced. Put 1500 or so rounds through it, only time it choked was with semi wadcutters.
Sold it a week ago to raise funds for a new Kimber but I would buy another one.

Check out the CZForum Clones club......
Tanfoglios are great guns...the overall quality is not quite up there with CZ...consistantly. The main downer is EAA's customer service...which Ive dealt with personally and never heard one good thing about......otherwise great guns.
They can be modified 10 ways to tuesday...if you check out Tanfoglio's main website...youll like the options for competing.
Heres two address's for ya.....

I have one of their older products, the TZ-75 Series 88. Initially, it would stove pipe empties and usually failed to completely eject the last round fired, just left the case on top of the mag. It never had a problem with +P 9mm ammo, so I dropped in a lighter recoil spring, problems solved. Mine has proved to be pretty accurate, groups around 3 inches at 25 yards with most ammo. The barrels have a reputation for being less than spectacular and mine is no exception. I am tempted to have a match grade barrel installed. Triggers can be improved and there is a myriad of parts available for the Witness series.

I have one in 10MM. I replaced the 13 pound recoil spring with an 18 pounder, to keep the brass in the same county.

I dearly love it, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. and it handles full power 10MM rounds just fine.

I had a Witness in 40cal, it Sucked BigTime. It jammed on every single round with new and used magazines. The Witness does not even come close to the CZ 75. Buy the CZ you wont be sorry.

I have a 9mm Witness, steel frame. So far it's gone though 600+ rounds without a single problem and has been very accurate. Yes, not very many but I hate chasing brass and mostly shoot revolvers.

...On the CZ Forum is that the Witness is a quality pistol at a fantastic price. It is not the equal of the CZ but has some innovative options and caliber combos that the CZ does not (10mm, 45 with a scaled up frame instead of the hughe 97B)

That said, the qulity control can be spotty and you have probably a 10% chance of getting a jam-o-matic. I know, I did when I got a polymer frame compact 45. Then you have to deal with the EAA customer service. I won't go into it (check out the CZ Clone forum...plenty of info there) but it was easier to sell the pistol after a few trips through their customer service.

I now have a Tactical II (a custom shop run) that shows a lot of promise. Witnesses have been shown to be real runners, and have won plenty of IDPA events. In fact the Tanfoglio site shows that their pistol won the World Championship something or another.

My advice is see if you can shoot it first. If OK, buy it. Many love them.

I have two small frames and one large frame.
One small is a dedicated 9x19, with no doubt over 30,000k through it.
The other small frame runs 9x19, 9x21 comped, 40 S&W, and 41 AE.
The large runs 45 ACP and 38 Super.

I guess I find them almost-perfect, but ditto EAA service, and swapping some parts can enhance both reliability and accuracy.

I can't say any thing bad about the 3 witness's i've owned. All 3 were reliable and accurate.I guess i was lucky enought not to have to deal with their customer service.
