I don't get the point. People have been getting depressed and killing themselves for years, using a variety of techniques. So far, passing laws doesn't seem to have stopped them.

Personally, I try to ignore the emphasis on guns and write it off to biased reporting.

Sad stuff. Are the shootings getting more common or is it just the anti's reporting this more? I still don't understand how any person can kill there own kids.

I think a lot of ranges have had suicides and even murders committed. I know that our local range has had a history.

Makes me wonder what exactly is going on in her mind at that moment. I can't imagine. That is a sad story, for so many reasons.

um, no matter how safe a range might be, that will not stop someone from doing that. Unless each booth is bullet proof and separated. And even then. That incident has nothing to do with safety. Just another sad story of some dumb lady thinking what she was doing was justified

People can't use the range that I go to, nor can they rent a gun there.....

And my range/gunshop is mostly staffed (and a lot of the clients are, too) by off-duty or retired cops. There's usually a crowd who all know our way around tools, so I feel reasonably safe...

There's no way to stop this.
My range is very well run and I think very safe.
But nothing can stop a crazy.

Geeezzz... that is my shooting range! I was there... more than an hour earlier :( I was there that day but I finished around 3:00pm and went home. The crime happened 4:20pm. Went home a little bit early because I was perspiring a lot during that time because it was a little bit hot inside. Thank God I did that, because if am comfy during that time, I might spend a little bit more and may probably see the whole crime! And also, that was my favorite lane where the guy was shot, lane #1!

Believe me, I choose that shooting range around Orlando because that is I think, the safest, most friendliest staff and friendly people out there who just wanted to have a good time to plink and target practice. A lot of family people with their kids go there every weekend just to have fun. That is also the place where I got my 1st pistol, Walther P22. I just can't believe that this thing happened there!

For now, I am still shocked and would probably not go there for a long time. I even have a full membership during this month.... but I don't care. I'm not going there back again for the mean time. :(

One of the local stations indicated that she'd try to kill herself once before at the same range and was banned from using it again.

The news crew told one of the patrons this. His reaction was that the range was irresponsible for allowing her to shoot there again.

I see the point, but at the same time how would they enforce such a ban? Unless her picture is on the wall (and even then, appearances can be changed) it's just not possible for every employee to deny her entrance.

It's really sad, but it disturbs me when they blame the range.

He could have jumped off a roof if he wanted. What are we going to do about that?

You can't save everybody. No way to defend against that happening.

Mine is an outdoor range at a private club in a rural area that doesn't rent guns. It's a good drive with plenty of places to stop in the woods on the way there if suicide and or murder is your goal. Seems unlikely anything like that would happen at my range but you never know.

Mental illness, enough said.

Sad story.

We have a range much like that here in Memphis, TN. They rent out pistols, have rent an automatic night, etc.... I have never felt safe there. I actually witnessed an individual carry a loaded rental from the range part of the premises out to the lobby area and sweep everyone in attendance. The last time I was there a 20 year old kid was drawing from his holster. (supposedly he took a class that gave him this priveledge). I will never go back again.

It is horrible that this woman killed her son. Fortunately she did not decide to target anyone else on the range. Very sad :(
