Buckshot through a turkey choke

The question came up last turkey season. What would happen if one were to fire a load of 00buck through a turkey choke? My thought was it would be ok as long as it was not plated shot. I was not confident enough to try.

I suspect that the buckshot would pattern rather badly at extended ranges, due to compression of the shot through the choke - it would probably deform the shot rather badly. If it were hard, plated shot, I would think there might be some risk of damage to the choke. I know that a friend of mine shot buckshot through a fixed full-choke barrel for a year or two, and after that, it was cylinder bore! :D

Not being evasive, but since shotgunning has so many variations in performance, I'd have to answer with a definite maybe.
I doubt anything would get damaged in this age of litigation and overbuilding, but IMO it'd be neither fun nor productive.
IME, Modified Choke, about 20 POC, is the break point for Buckshot. Some Southron deer hunters use tighter chokes for buck, but oft these are used with carefully concocted handloads and fixed chokes honed to work with THAT load.
By and large with store bought ammo and shotguns, I'd stick in a Modified tube and test 5 packs of buck in 000,00, and 1 sizes until I found a winner. If none occurs, I'd go to a LM rather than tighter.
BTW, In very limited testing, a long forcing cone did more good than one increment of choke.
