I mailed my S&W 625-9 .45 Colt “Mountain Gun” cylinder off to have it machined to accept .45 ACP moon clips – from what I understand, I will be able to shoot both .45 Colt ammo (loaded individually) and .45 ACP ammo loaded in moon clips… has anyone else done this and if so, did you have any issue with using both cartridges?

This seems like a great option to have the best of both rounds in the same 625 Mountain Gun (since I haven’t been able to locate a .45 ACP Mountain Gun anyway)… anyone have any thoughts on it?

Seems like it's too late now if you already mailed it off.

The only thought I have is the shorter .45 ACP will have a lot of wiggle room in the .45 Colt chamber before it gets to the forcing cone.
You will get some gas blow-by, and possibly less accuracy.

But I don't have one, so it is all speculation.

Mine is a 625-6 Mountain Gun in .45 ACP, and it will stay that way!
