I ran across one of these in a gunshop awhile back and was just wandering.
Are these guns any good? Are they shooters or just place in a corner until needed guns?

I have one, and regret getting the junk almost daily.
I won't go into all the problems I had to fix, so far, on it but your better off getting about anything else for the money.:barf:

I handled one of the Bushie carbon pistols, but did not fire it.

I wasn't impressed at all. Although incredibly light (cool!) and inherently cool (a mini AR!) the whole thing felt like a little pile of plastic crap in my hands. The safety wasn't smooth (it was a two handed struggle) and the takedown pins where balky, and the whole thing reeked of...cheesieness.

I don't know how good or not it would work, but $700+ is a lot to pay for a bizarre, cheesy not a pistol not a rifle what the hell is it?

The Professional Ordnance manufactured Carbon-15s have had some issues. The company has since been bought by Bushmaster who has resolved to work out the issues and who has a reputable name in the AR game. However, there aren't enough people who own the Bushmaster manufactured ones to see if they have made good on their claims yet; though it seems they have addressed at least some of the complaints.

I own one of the later PO pistols.

It has worked great, not problems. Lots of fun with the 120 round AR mag I have. You can just about pull the trigger forever with that mag. It blows a huge fireball out the end, but the recoil isn't too bad. Not very accurate in the pistol version. I love mine, it scares the hell out of people when you are shooting it. Even the dogs are scared of it.

You know for some odd reason the pistols seem to work better than the rifles. Go figure.
I knew someone that owned their pistol version and had no trouble with it either.

I can't imagine Bushmaster releasing anything w/ low quality. My friend who spent many years in the Marines was blown away by the accuracy, trigger, and overall quality of my Shorty 16, and least compared to any of the rifles he was issued while in the service.

I have a very early Carbon 15 and it was always challenged by the idea that the brass is suppose to be ejected after firing. It finally gave up the ghost and didn't even try to eject. About that time P.O. went under and Bushmaster took over. I sent the rifle back to Bushmaster and they must have replaced all the moving parts, except for the trigger. Additionally, they said they would not charge me. Haven't had a problem since. The Carbon 15 points like no other rifle. Mine is sub-MOA. If it continues to function properly, it will be one nice shooting semi-auto. Bushmaster told me that it should be 100% reliable from now on.

I have one of the few uppers made specifically for a standard AR lower. Fits and functions flawlessly. Been reliable so far and will even take a standard milspec bolt carrier (bolt locking lugs are slightly different from a standard AR bolt.

Very fast pointing and super light. Been a happy camper so far.

Is it illeagal to put any kind of foregrip on a post-ban AR-15 pistol?

That's good info about getting the rifle repaired. A friend of mine will be very interested, as two of his shattered last year. I was at the range with him in about 30 degree weather and after a few rounds I watched the lower cracked into a bunch of pieces. According to him, the other one did it a few months later. I'll pass on this tidbit to him, he never bothered trying to get in touch with the company despite several of his friends telling him he should. Now, this might give him the motivation to get it fixed since Bushmaster is running things.

That is the problem with carbon fiber. It is strong for the weight, but can be brittle. 100% sure that Bushmaster would stand behind the Carbon 15. They were not tentative in their support.

Putting a foregrip on it may run you afoul of making it a short barreled rifle, kinda like putting a foregrip on an SP-89.

I have not shot one, but my understanding is that the original PO models had some problems, while the ones that Bushmaster has released have been high quality. I read a list somewhere of 10 or 12 or so changes that Bushmaster made before releasing it. And I also have the impression that a foregrip is a no-no, but I don't know for sure.

I believe putting a foregrip on a pistol turns it into an AOW, not a SBR. Cheaper transfer tax then a SBR, only $5.

if they were reliable I'd say a 4 lbs AR would rock!
