Firefighter Allegedly Had Sex With Teen At Fire Station
LAKE COUNTY, Fla. -- A trail of love letters led investigators to what they say was a tryst inside two Lake County fire stations between a firefighter and a teenager. Firefighter Paul Mertz is almost 40-years-old. The girl he's suspected of having sex with is 17. He's in the Lake County Jail, held on a $40,000 bond.
Police say he had sex with the girl at Lake County Fire Station 61 on Hermosa and at Station 62 on Spring Lake Road. The department is looking into whether anyone else knew.
According to reports, some of the encounters happened right out in front of the station, in the bay for the trucks. At least one other firefighter was there at the time. The Lake County stations are usually staffed with three firefighters, at the very least two.
It's not clear what time of day the encounters allegedly happened, but all visitors are banned at the fire stations after eight o'clock at night.
The victim said Paul Mertz told her not to tell anyone about their relationship because he could lose his job and his kids. The girl did write about the fire station fling in love letters.
Cops say the girl's parents found the graphic letters and brought them to Lady Lake Police. A friend of the teen also went there and told investigator she saw the pair in the midst of an encounter at the station.
The girl also said she had some encounters with the firefighter at his home in Wildwood. Investigators say they're looking into the allegation, but so far they haven't filed any charges.

Surely others in the Firehouse must have known what was going on?
