Does loading and unloading a pump damage the shell?

I keep my Mossy 590 loaded. But when I transport it to the range, I just rack the slide until it's empty.
Is it OK to reload those same rounds after doing this? How about twice or 3 times?
Thanks.

No probs at all. Eventually, if you keep reloading the same shells for years, you'll notice the plastic rim around the crimp starting to fray a bit. It presses and rubs against the metal base of the one in front of it and it causes a bit of wear but it's nothing to worry about. The ammo will always work fine.

Why not remove them thru the reciever where you put them in?

Just press in on the shell latch that holds rounds in the magazine to download the gun, one shell at the time- kinda dangerous to keep pumping live rounds through the action like that.

Pig hunting exit truck load shells, hour or two later unload shells, move to another site, load shells, couple hours later unload shells if not shot. Repeat next hunt if we got skunked that day. No harm to shotgun or shells- I hunt with my Remington 870 20ga. with rifled slugs.

Prison tower shotguns get loaded and unloaded every 8 hours, or should be.
We found that repeated cycling through the action bent the rim, and occasionally abraded the plastic.
The method Lee mentioned is better.

"Prison tower shotguns get loaded and unloaded every 8 hours, or should be."
That's just a cool sentence.
