I've got a marlin 30-30 that im having the barrel cut down. I'll be reloading for it and i was wondering if using a faster burning powder would compensate for losing 4 inches of barrel.

Does anyone happen to have a 30-30 load they could recommend?

No. Burning rate of powder depends on bullet weight.

Yes, you will get less velocity from a shorter barrel, however, the loads that give greatest velocity in a long barrel will still give greatest velocity in a short barrel.

If you have previously worked up an accurate load, you may need to fine tune it. Cutting down a barrel changes the flex and wave patterns of the barrel.

Check your loading manual for best results.

A faster powder will only cut down on the noise and flash. As mentioned, the fastest load in a long barrel will be fastest in a short one. Even snubby 1-7/8" .357s get the most possible velocity from slow magnum powders.

Why are you having the barrel cut down?

Its going to be my truck/brush gun. I handled a 16 inch Winchester 30-30 that was really nice.
