I bought a used Taurus model 85 ultralite from a gun shop today (i was pretty happy with $302 otd), but i did'nt get the box or owner's manual or anything. Is there any way to tell if the 38 special +p is ok to shoot? Is it fine as long as it's a 38 special caliber? Does it have to be marked +p, or can any 38 sp shoot the +p? Sorry if this is a dumb question, i've had all auto's until i got my judge (which is super fun to shoot, btw), i picked this up for pocket carry if i'm running to the store or something and don't want to strap on my whole carry rig (kimber ultra carry 45 in a crossbreed supertuck with tactical instructor's belt). Thanks for any advice.

Plus P .38 ammo is a sell tactic. Modern .38+P ammo is weaker than regular .38 special ammo from 30 years ago. Its was a safety margin when cheap wheel guns saturated the market. Your gun will do just fine with +P ammo. Just practice with standard ammo or you'll kill your hand. Carry, if you can find it, 158 gr lead semi-wadcutter hollow point by Remington. Remeber Remington because its a softer lead and has an excellent track record. Its got a kick, but more recorded shootings with .38s have than bullet behind them, and it works like a champ. 135 gr Gold Dots are supposidly good, but I carry what the cops shoot bad guys with. Good luck pard

Don't know about the Model 85, but here's a link for their revolver manual.
