BTW, I have been looking for a place locally for firearms training, and am not sure what kind of criteria I should be looking for.

Want one (an SKS really bad, but for now, I'll have to take advantage of the dirt cheap Mosin Nagant supply

[solinvictus]

I guess why the majority of intelligent americans are suspicious of the "anti-gun" crowd. They exploit each and every shooting to call for more laws, even if the laws proposed have nothing to do with the crime.

[Wcross]

In the U.S., citizens have the "inalienable right to defend self and property". SCOTUS has ruled that government is not obligated to defend an individual. SCOTUS has also ruled that a citizens right to keep and bear arms (RKBA) is restored as one the civil rights when civil rights are restored without exception, i.e. RKBA is a civil right.

How many of these folks are actually libertarians and conservatives preaching the gospel to the unwashed?

None, these are all real long-time DUers.

Exactly..i know of people from other gun boards (conservatives/libertarians) who frequent DU just to change hearts/minds over there about guns. You can bet your ??? that 80% of those pro-gun lefties are really people from Glocktalk, Arf.com, or GunsNet.

bout guns. You can bet your ??? that 80% of those pro-gun lefties

Nope. I have deliberately chosen people well-known to me as Dems.

It's extremely hard of the Libertarian/Repub to stay for long - the Mods overreact a lot, and even I got kicked.

I think all this "DubyaSelectedNotElectedWagingImperialWarToEnrichTheFatCatsAndPoisonChildren" craziness has really turned a few folks around re the 2A. Big Gov't doesn't look so appealing when *you're* the one on the outs instead of the other guy.

Another indication... job stuff has me looking all around Seattle. In between reading the JuniorCommunistLeagueOfAmerica-type editorials and perusing the EnlightenedIntellectualCoffeeHouse/Bookstores, I wandered into a NewAgey-Pagan-TeenWitchy type store. Candles, incense, tye-die, Ren Faire type clothes.. about what you'd expect... rack of marijuana activist type magazines, okay, that was a little wierd, then....

a rack full of Duncan Long, Ragnar Benson, and every other "how to kill preople and break their stuff" book I could imagine.

They grow 'em tough out that way.

(all this does make me wonder just how pro-2A our more law and order brethren will be when it's New-Wave Bolsheviks playing militia instead of more conservative folk)

I also read a post over there where the writer claimed that DUers made up the top 20% of the intelligence range of Americans. Another DUer chimed in that perhaps there should be some sort of test given before citizens could be allowed to vote; that is, if they weren't smart enough they had no right to vote.

To DU's credit, these two numbskulls were drowned out in a flurry of fairly reasoned posts pointing out how totally unAmerican this is and how it smacked of Stalinism.

I was surprised by the quality of the several dozen posts I read on that thread, because when I checked in on them after the 2002 elections, it was mass hysteria ... and hysterical.

Another aspect of DU that surprised me was a character named Auntie Pinko. Basically "she" purportedly answers questions about politics from her readers. I was expecting the worst kind of extreme-left drivel, and her positions are extreme left. But, in her replies she also explains the opposition's point of view, and more surprisingly, she clearly understands the opposition view; she just comes to a different conclusion. This was my observation from a year ago; she might have changed since.

kaylee, I'm optimistic. You wrote, (all this does make me wonder just how pro-2A our more law and order brethren will be when it's New-Wave Bolsheviks playing militia instead of more conservative folk) I think that exposure to firearms can be a wake-up call ("dang, I could hurt somebody with this thing") for New-Wave Bolshies. Those I've met have usually had no experience of firearms. Those who become intrigued by firearms, and who investigate further, will also encounter our propaganda (definition: not lies; simply communication that is intended to convince, and to spread ideas that we hold). They'll have the opportunity to embark on the path of personal responsibility. Just my 2ยข ...

The Left understands what guns are for and that "gun control" is feckless against crime. They only wish to disarm you and me (never themselves) so that we cannot resist their socialistic policies.

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

30 years ago the old wave leftie bolsheviks were playing militia. They got hooked up with old wave "gangstas" robbing banks and armored cars and killing "the man" and other sundry citizens who got in their way. They had no problems getting weapons with daddy`s money. One of the more dreary "power to the people" munchkins just got out on parole in NYS.:barf:

I think a lot of people should go to democratunderground dot com and see for them self. I have to disagree with Micobalrog's opinion, most of them are not good people. Also note we should not link there because then they would be drawn here.

I have heard them bragging about attacking snowmobilers with rocks(but a few did disagree with that), supporting ELF and ALF terrorist activities. For every intelligent post about firearms you get something like "fine let the rednecks own as many muskets as they want so they can shoot everyone else in the their trailer park." They are swarmed with anti American posts and I believe even had to ban anti American posts because they became too common, plus so many members wished death on our military it was not even funny. There are so many comments made there that I could not even post here for fear of what Art's Grandma would do to me. Every intelligent and well reasoned point is drowned out by over ten threatening or insulting posts. Anyway everyone go see for yourself.

I will take another look but I would have to say it was the worse message board I have ever seen, myabe it has cleaned up a bit. I also found some great people on that board before, but they were a minority.

dino, wow, you remember the Black Liberation Army?!?!

You are a dinosaur!:D

BTW, if any of the whippersnappers amongst the brothers and sisters of THR want to know what the two old geezers of dino and the badger are babbling about, I recommend, DESTRUCTIVE GENERATION: Second Thoughts About the '60, Peter Collier & David Horowitz (1989). You can find it (maybe if it has not yet been burned) in the ancient history section of your library.:D

The Left has no delusions that "gun control" is to provide any sort of answer to crime. Gun control is to be used as a tool to advance their agenda of advancing socialism.

I'm more interested in the people who are moderate on these issues, or undecided. Dealing with the hardcore antis feels like pouring my energy into a void.

Kathy Boudin, the "munchkin" I referred to in my other post, was captured at the scene by a friend of mine I used to work with on Rikers Island. He gave me a first hand account afterwards.

She was paroled on what would have been Sgt. Ed O`Grady`s 55th birthday.

A search for her name will enlighten those who are too young to remember the Brinks armored car robbery in Nyack N.Y. where a Brinks guard and 2 police officers were gunned down in cold blood.
