I was reading a page listing the soldiers who have died in Iraq: Link (http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2003/iraq/forces/casualties/)
The page lists cause of death. For example: "Died from a non-hostile gunshot wound in Hamishiyah, Iraq on July 17, 2003"
What does "non-hostile gunshot wound" mean? Is this an AD, ND, or a new term for friendly-fire?

Would cover all of the above.

Here's a weird one... "Died in his sleep on August 8, 2003, in Camp Caldwell in Kirkush, Iraq. A fellow soldier tried to wake Bush and noticed he was not breathing." Wonder how many healthy 20 year olds just die in their sleep??

I'd say that any projectile that hit you was definitely hostile.

There have been quite a few soldiers commit suicide over there. It could also be an accident.

I'm amazed at how many have died from drowning (in a desert of all places), and vehicle accidents.
