Ahh, welcome to the club! Sounds like you got a pretty good deal; if the Mak was covered in grease maybe it was unissued. I love the things!

As it has been said before, "you can buy a cheaper gun, you can buy a better gun but, you can not buy a cheaper-better gun than a Makarov".
How true, how true.
Its been my truck gun for ages.

Mak mags are interchangable. The EG mag will work with your Bulgie Mak no problem.

Congrtulations on your purchase! I have a Russian High-Cap myself which, reportedly, is on the bottom-end of Makarovs. It is an excellent quality pistol, so I imagine that yours is spectacular!
I'll also add that makarov.com is the best place to find anything for M's. The service is great, too. They accidentally sent me an incorrect item which was more expensive than the original item I purchased. So what did they do? Sent me the original item and let me keep the mistake item.

Well, you have now been struck with the Mak bug... there is no cure, you are now doomed to seriously thinking about buying every Makarov you come across. You will also begin looking for all of the other makes of Makarov, like an East German, a Russian, a Chinese, etc.....
:D
Enjoy your new obsession.

after carefully studying the mechanics of the mak,i dissassembled it without even a manual down to every last piece, cleaned it up and reassembled it.seems a very simple design, rugged and well made.went to the mak site again last nite and looked again at the neat upgrades.wow..i like the looks and design more than the little 380 sig i had looked at but couldnt afford.the 9x18 mak is just more umph than the 380 anyways and a third of the price.shot it early this morning at some pumpkins.used the silverbear hollowpoints.no problems and they had made a nice hole where i aimed.im going to try some fmjs too when i can get some(the ammo is cheaper than 380..and has more umph=good choice).im very pleased with this little gun.yup, ive got the darn mak bug.:Done more thing-it has engraved on the slide and frame the same letters and numbers.a nm 25 1694.the n is backwards.anyone know what this means?there is also a 10 in circles around it just behind the slide stop.thanks

The 10 in concentric circles is the symbol for Bulgarian military issue. The 25 prefix means it was manufactured in 1985 I believe. The other numbers are the Bulgarian serial numbers.
What tools did you need to completely take the gun apart? Were you able to also remove the barrel or did you leave that alone?

The backwards 'N' is a cryllic letter.

Removing the barrel is very difficult and you would normally only do this when changing barrels. The only tool needed take your Mak apart is needle nose pliers or the Makarov cleaning rod/claw to remove the sear spring:

i went to the army surplus store and bought a set of dentist picks(3.50).my trusty tweezers and pliers.lotsa paper towels.the inside was coated in thick grease.i left the barrel in there,i read that a press makes removing it very easy..an i dont have a barrel press-so it stayed put.

Once you get the grips off, you don't really need any extra tools to completely strip the gun.
You can get by using various parts from the gun to do the tricky bits.
