Send them an e-mail at least to tell them the show was flawed in quite a few aspects, but the Diane Sawyer comment that NO ONE had defended themselves in a documented self-defense situation is just over the top.

A number of us have been applying heat here, so please assist: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/News/story?id=128165
Also, hard copy letters to ABC asking that the producers of 20/20 publically apoligize or be fired are a good idea too. They can be reached here:

Would it be a good idea to complain to ABC programming as well? Maybe applying enough pressure might get it slotted somewhere less viewed. If so, here's the link to that: http://abc.go.com/site/contactus.html

Subject: Your advertising on ABC
I am extremely disappointed that your company chose to advertise during last night"s ABC network show, 20/20 and their bizarre criticism of gun ownership. Obviously you have endorsed this viewpoint, and have chosen to ignore the millions of law-abiding citizens who choose to protect life and defend property with their firearms, a right given to us by the Constitution. As a result of this, we will do everything in our ability to inform all of those with whom we have influence to boycott your stores and products, as you have chosen to promote lies and have taken a stance directly opposed to one of our most cherished freedoms and responsibilities.

Dear Mr. Baldwin,
Thank you for contacting The Dannon Company regarding the television program 20/20 in which our advertising appeared recently. I can assure you we share your concerns about the quality and appropriateness of programming. We do all that we can to ensure that it meets Dannon standards.
As you may know, companies like Dannon typically purchase advertising "rotations" throughout a network's or station's scheduled programming. And although we work diligently through our advertising agency to avoid inappropriate programming, on occasion our safeguards are inadequate. For us, that is an indication that we must redouble our efforts in this regard, and we will.
We are committed to participating in programs that reflect the high quality of our products. That is our directive to our advertising agency, and it is not negotiable.
Once again, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us on this important matter. You can be sure we value your comments and we hope in the future that we can count you as a consumer of Dannon products.

NOT GREAT . . . but I will continue to wear them out

By all means, contact ABC. But frankly they really, really don't care if you're upset. In fact some of them will enjoy it.
It is far more effective to write the advertisers. They do care because they were spending a lot of money to get you to buy whatever product or service they are selling, and they aren't happy campers when the show makes the viewer mad and less receptive to "their message."
You can also make milage by filing a formal complaint against the local station that broadcast the program, with the Federal Communication Commission (FCC).
Over the weekend a number of threads covered this issue, with some excellent and specific advise on how to respond. Take some time and go look them up.
