when loading the 44 magnum (for revolver) with H110 powder, do you need magnum primers? or will standard pistol primers work fine?

Hodgdon always recommends using a Magnum Primer with H-110. I use Magnum Primers whenever I'm loading either H-110 or Winchester 296, since they're both hard to ignite.

Hope this helps.

As usual, ReloaderFred has great information for new and experienced reloaders alike.
All spherical (ball) powders should be used with hotter (magnum) primers due to their grain structure and burn deterrents that often makes ignition more difficult. Usually, a more consistent grouping will occur with the use of magnum primers, and that is true in both pistol and rifle.

The Magnum primers are recommended and probably rightly so; that being said, I have always used Winchester Large Pistol Primers because they are recommended for all applications. I started using the Winchester primers when they still came in wooden trays and were numbered instead of named. Good shooting!!!!!!
