While taking meticulous care in cleaning my gun, I actually put two little chips in the stock! Although pinky nail size, I'd like to fix them. Suggestions? Thanks so much!

If dents:
Plug in the iron, get a damp cloth and place over dents, steam will raise the grain. Go slow, after raised light sanding with 0000 steel wool.
If chips: Sometimes can raise if not too deep. If really deep go to a hardware and get the wood "putty" that best matches, apply, let dry, again use 0000 steel wool.
I have those on my guns...I call mine character, some well earned and cherished I might add.

I think 73 covered it pretty well. I personaly use Brownells glass bedding for any wood stock repair rather than putty but on small chips I could see putty working as well as long as they are not in a stressed area.
What I can't resist here is a chance to voice an opinion about wood stocks on working/field guns in a day and age when composite materials are so much better . I have repaired so many wooden stocks over the years and seen so many guns with wood damage from oils , cracks, splits, dents, and rot , that I personaly wouldn't care to have a gun with wood on it ever again.

:D
I still prefer wood and blue. Yeah I know about the new composites and such, but I like my wood. Besides, taking an iron to a plastic stock...phew...burning plastic stinks! ;)

Thanks 73! I managed to raise the grain via the method you described enough anyway that I am comfortable with it without trying to push it and perhaps ruin the surrounding wood.
I love wood. It has "romance" and "personality" to it for lack of a better description. I hunt with a beautiful cocobolo and shedua wood traditional bow and the dings I pick up in the field on that become fond reminders of great hunts but the ones I make through carelessness tend to bug me a bit at least for awhile. Anyway it is a new gun to me and the flaw will soon blend in with those I pick up duck and upland hunting!
Thanks again!

Ahhh ! The romance of ironing your wood ! LOL ! :D :D :D
Sorry ! Just couldn't resist !
Truth be told - most like the look of wood & that's why most guns still come with wood stocks . (even ugly wood at times)
