Long gun or handgun? What do you prefer?

I started out buying a lot of handguns, but lately find myself gravitating toward shotguns and rifles - ARs, FALs.
How about you?

Handgun  I sold off my HK 91 & 93 many many years ago & have not replaced them :( So by virtue of the fact I have no long guns, I voted HANDGUN ;)

I'm very much into long guns at the expense of handguns. Just a personal preference.

I like em all. Different tools for different jobs. How would you turn a flat head screw with an open end wrench?

Yeah BigG you're pretty much on the nail there.
I did way back enjoy rifle a great deal and still do but unfortunately I don't have that easy and access to long distance ranges and ..... used to enjoy the distance challenge with rifles. 100yds is OK sometimes but not always.
Shotguns still feature ... I enjoy some trap.
Overall though it is I guess ...... handguns. Great challenge there for me re fluency, accuracy and add to that the pleasures of reloading. Hell of a lot less weight to tote to the range too (excluding of course the mandatory ''several'' pounds weight of ammo to be expended!!) :D
Funny ain't it .... how much less burdened the truck is on way home from range!:p

It depends! If I am deer hunting; I want my .270 rifle. But, if I am going out on the town; I would rather conceal my .38 revolver or .9mm auto!:D
I really like shooting ALL guns, but if I had to chose, I would have to say handguns, even though, I have more long guns.

Let's see.
I have
1) A rifle
2) 2 handguns, a revolver and a semi-auto
3) A shotgun
4) A .22 rifle.
I think this little armory covers almost all the bases, so I intend to rinse lather, and repeat.

On the balance, I am primarily a pistol shooter. I practice bullseye and attend the occasional air pistol match. Though I am trying to expand into rifle shooting when time/money permit.
As for shotties...no love yet.

I have five pistols, with one more on the way. Only one long arm.

My collection consists of rifles mostly, but that's probably because in NC a permit from your county sheriff is required to buy a handgun. That's kind of a pain to get when you work out of the county during the weekdays.
That said, I've been more interested in handguns now that I'm getting my CCL so I'll probably get on a handgun kick for a while.

In what context is the inquiry? My preference, if you are speaking of something to rely upon to sustain your life - then for me hands down its a rifle.
That said, I enjoy handguns for fun becuase they are so much more challenging than an accurate rifle.

so right now I prefer handguns, I like historical handguns like Lugers, P38's
1911's, Swedish Lahtis, Makarov, tokarev, etc.

There are a tad more challenging and fun for me...plus alot more convienent to pack around town.
Seems I am starting a collection of 1911 .45 auto's to the exclusion of everyother handgun....just what I like.
That said...I like semi auto rifles too...but most are beyond my budget at the time. But one more will fall into my hands shortly at the Vegas gunshow at the end of the month.
Prob'ly get another AK...the one in the midwest gunsafe is lonely!
There is just something very appealing to me about that combat proven rifle. Simplicity, reliability I guess.

I used to be real heavy into the assault rifle scene, but have sold off most of my pre-bans and gravitated more to handguns just out of practicality. I don't have the time or the range to get the most out of rifle shooting but I can always pop into the local indoor range to keep my handgun skills up to speed. Of course, I do still keep a few rifles and a social shotgun for a nice rounded out battery.

I finally bought a .22 caliber rifle last winter. I've taken it to the range twice. I'm sure it's a nice rifle, but anything I can hit targets with easily isn't much of a challenge.

I have a Mossberg 12-guage and 2 Hi Powers.
While I like all guns, I find handguns the most practical/useful. It is also important to have a rifle, but I see a handgun as the keystone to the collection of necessary firearms.
Of course, I will be getting some rifles soon, too... Maybe a lever-action. ;)
So, yeah. Handguns. :D

I've been buying more long guns lately. Two big reasons are my Dad is a long-gun guy and I've been spending more time with him. That and handguns have so much annoying paperwork now. Being right on a state border a lot of the best shops are across it which is kinda annoying.
I just have the 11-87 for my shotgun and I don't even get to use it that often. Clay shooting is a lot of fun . . . I need to get out and do that some more.

Geez, that's kind of like asking "Which do you prefer, eating or drinking?"
Handguns are convenient because they can be worn on the person without interfering with normal daily activities. Since the "best gun in a gunfight" is the one you can put your hands on at the moment you need it, it wins in this respect. However, they can't hold a candle to a rifle or shotgun for power and accuracy. Wear the handgun, keep a good rifle and shotgun close at hand and use the handgun to fight your way to them.

I like 'em all too, but I think I would probably end up gravitating towards my 870 as the single firearm I use the most (or at least would be the one I'd reach for in an emergency).

I think deep down, I'm more of a handgunner, but I do love shooting rifles.
One thing I am definitely NOT is a shotgunner.

no interest for me in shotguns, very little in handguns.
The former just never appealed to me, the latter just seems more often than not an inconvenient necessity rather than something I enjoy in it's own right.
Rifles though.... :D

I have to look at it from what I can use where.
I recently found I can shoot almost as well with a crossbow as a rifle (just slightly shorter distance). Had restrictions on firearms in the area, and needed to clear some feral hogs.
Rifle, pistol, bow, pike, knife, all these weapons have their place and uses. the main thing is to find what you are comfortable with and use it.:D
