Try searching for 627; you'll get plenty of opinion and discussion on which to base any specific questions you have.

Looks like a very fun gun to me--in pictures anyway, I've never seen one up close & personal.

Is this the currently-catalogued 5" gun with the funny-looking flat-sided barrel and the pretty Ahrend's grips or an older V-Comp or what?

I have the 2 5/8" (3") V-comp. Very nice gun, although it does have some minor niggling faults that are only apparent when you compare it to a gun like my '64-vintage 27-2. (The sideplate could be better fitted; the trigger, while good for a current S&W, is nothing to slobber over; the barrel's torqued a degree or two too far clockwise; stuff like that...)

I got the one with the shorter barrel. Only 3", but it has a removable compensator that makes it look longer.

I've got one. It has an OK trigger and locks up solid. It is a good gun. I still like the older S&W triggers, but this one is a keeper. Don't sweat it..just get it and enjoy. I also picked up a mooner, demooner and moonclip flattener tool. Started using Starline brass and it all works great. The moonclips are brass specific. You can't use any brass.

That angled barrel looks like something Harrington & Richardson would have had second thoughts about.

You mean this one , yeah the barrel takes a bit to get used to , but we all did the checkout down at the gunshop and this gun is almost too tight ! Locks up like a bankvault and timing is dead on with a super close range rod. The only fault i've found since I brought it home is the grips could be a touch better fitted at the butt seam. Case

I have one with the 5" barrel. It is very easy to shoot really tight groups in DA mode. I was surprised given I don't often shoot revolvers in DA. For some reason I find it more difficult to shoot tight groups in SA mode. I need to take it out to the range more. The SA "problem" is likely my fault. I may need to grip it a little differently when shooting SA.

Wish that I would have gotten the 5" barrel. Like it better now than the 3".

Don't like the looks of the 5 inch barrell. Have been looking for a 4 inch full lug version performance center or not. Almost got a 3 inch not to long ago. Still looking for the right one.....

Have never seen a 4" PC 627. Would be the perfect gun.
