Where else are you going to find a 1911A1 spec hangun for around $300?

If we're talking about new equipment I think Cableman is right on the money. I just talked my brother into a new Springfield 1911A1 as his first 1911. Prices are in the $400's around here.

I'm a Colt man myself and pay extra for the name. :)

I would really rather have a double-action. But, do these pistols mentioned above come with ambi safeties?

You can buy a new SIG P220 for as little as $600 in some places, and ex-police for as little as $400.

The new milspecs are entertaining but assuming they are somewhat faithful replicas, military-style sights aren't great.

Best double action .45 for the money: Sig P220.

Yeah, it's pretty pricey, but what you get is arguably the finest DA .45 in existence. You get a lot for your six hundred bucks.

Depends on your budget. $1400 gets you a real sweet shooter in the Valtro, rivalling guns (stock or customized) running a good deal more. Then again, I'm a Valtro cult member.

I'll say nothing more, having recently been accused of 'working for Valtro' - on another forum ;)

The Baby Eagle in .45 and the EAA Witness are both decent double action .45s for the money (based on the CZ75).

Also, can't go wrong with the Ruger P97 (even though I'm not much of a Ruger fan).

For .45s the HK USP and the Sig P220 are the way to go. Yes you will spend a little bit of $$$ (but certainly not as much as one of the tricked out 1911's), but you get a fine pistol, that will do the job, under most any circumstances.

Best bang for the buck in a .45 IMHO is the CZ-97B. Owners and reviews compare out of box accuracy comparable to the Sigs and you get a 10 round double-stack mag.Street price is about $500. They used to be around $460 but as their reputation has improved they've worked a little more margin into the price.

If you have small hands it may not be the gun for you but it fits me perfectly. There are a couple area IDPA folks (husband and wife) who swear by them and shoot them with no mods at all.

The EAA Witness is a CZ clone and can be found for $299 new (been a few months since I looked).

I'm a lefty and the controls are pretty easy for me to operate.
The Witness is a 10rd double stack but is more narrow than the CZ.
It's been a good pistol.

Greeting's All-

Hey-Hey Paw Daddy, I don't know of any SIG P220's

bang for your buck!:D :D :D

Sigs dont have a safety. Well let me clarify, no manual saftey. Levers are decocker, slide stop, take down and mag release button.

The Sig 220 is an excellent choice if you can stand DA triggers, decockers, and other bizarre gizmos. They're very reliable and shoot very well.

But it ain't a 1911.

There can be only one: Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special. :D

The 1911 is an excellent choice if you can stand active safeties, grip safeties, bushings, the necessity of a bushing wrench (on some models) and other bizarro gizmos. They can be very reliable and shoot very well.

But it ain't a SIG

There can be only one: SIG P220ST
