I'm wondering about using buffer shields on saiga 12 shotgun. It seems like a good idea on the one hand ie. increasing life of gun, but I have read that it can cause a host of problems of it's own. If it causes less pounding and wear on gun that sounds good. But you have to wonder if its needed since the gun is manufactured without it.

The regular thicker AK buffers do not work well in a Saiga 12. This is due to the fact that the S12's inner volume is mostly all being used by the large 12 gauge round and the bolt goes nearly all the way to the rear of the receiver. You can use a thinner material for your buffer, some people make them from thin rubber O'ring/gasket material you can buy in sheets.

Your best defense against receiver wear from the bolt hitting it is to set your gas plug so that the shotgun cycles with the plug screwed in as far as possible. Screw it in all the way then back it out to the first stop, fire, if it does not cycle back the plug out one more click and fire. Repeat until the shotgun cycles consistently.
