tells you all about their rimfire ammo. EXCEPT the velocity.

Under "target" it mentions Green Tag and Pistol Match.

What I want to know is if the Green Tag is STANDARD VELOCITY .

Thats all.

I want to shoot SV in my pistol and just want to know if Green Tag is the one.

Is it?

The box I have is no help. It just says,

CCI
22 LONG RIFLE
GREEN
TAG
COMPETITION
AMMUNITION

With warnings, warnings, warnings on the bottom label of the box. There's nothing written on the backs of the labels on what I have. I acknowledge that I'm a doofus for not knowing what I'm shooting.

EDITED to add the ff:

There's a big chart at http://www.wholesalehunter.com/product/cci/ccides/cciplasticpack.htm

The numbers are the same for the Green Tag as for the "Standard Velocity" round on the row above it on the chart, except for the Part Number. Looks like they're the same velocity (1070 fps listed muzzle velocity) and ctg. makeup; my guess is that they QC the Green Tag heavily for consistency. In the paragraph above the chart, wholesalehunter describes these two rounds and two others thus: Competitive shooters put their trust in CCI Green Tag and Pistol Match - loaded to exacting accuracy specifications for top scores._ CCI 22 short target is designed for international rapid fire competition._ When training for the big match many shooters use economically CCI standard velocity._ All of these rounds are internationally loaded to sub sonic velocities to avoid the buffeting that super sonic rounds experience when they pass through the transonic zone. So they're two different rounds, with the same basic specs. The one they call Green Tag costs more.

Midway describes it, too. You can click on "Technical Specifications and Use" under the picture at http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/324463

Midway says it's got a velocity of 940 fps from a 6" bbl. and a nominal velocity of 1070 fps for whatever their test bbl. was.

I really hate it when they don't put the velocity on the box flap. It just bugs me.

So the box says 1600FPS. Okay, but how was that measured and out of what length barrel? What kind of rifling? What was the altitude, air temperature, humidity and relative density? At what range was the velocity measured? At the muzzle or at 20 yards?
Just because the box has some arbatrary number on it, it doesn't mean that is what I am going to get from my gun. I have found that the velocity number printed on the box has little value in my actual shooting.

If you want to know the velocity, you gotta measure it from your own gun.

Looked at the link. Apparently the DIFFERENCE is that "Pistol Match" comes in 50 box and "Green Tag" comes in 100 box.

A.....SIGNIFICANT.....difference in specs.

:D

Becuz....shootin a pistol wud tire u out real fast an havin only 50 chances to miss makes u take a break to change boxes.

But............a RIFLE.......well, heck, them's EASY to shoot so u mite as well keep goin.

Wotta world.

The only reason I am seeking SV ammo is for my High Standard Trophy.

WHICH

I found out only last week will (even though the mfr says different) TEAR ITSELF TO PIECES with HV ammo.

Took mine down and the firing pin hole in the REAR was all peened from hitting the frame stop block.

A......COMMON.......though not publicized occurence.

High Standards were never heat treated. They are made from the same block of steel that they machined.

That explained why my slide was also peened from using the SLIDE RELEASE to release the slide. (This was something I KNEW but had forgotten)
HS guns are meant to be chambered by drawing back the slide every time and letting it slam home without using the hold open "slide release."

REAL fine guns but need to know that they do NOT like HS ammo.

I usually use SV for just about every target application, but have occasionally used HP HV just cuz it was what was on hand at the time.

NEVER AGAIN.

Goin out today to check the grouping. NEVER was what I expected so I also sent the barrel (along with the slide to have the heavier spring installed to stop the peening) to Jim Barta in Ohio and he found that the MUZZLE had been made on a SLANT from the factory.

I had suspected it ever since I got the gun as it just LOOKED that way. But I figgered optical illusion. Nope. Slanted muzzle. Jim chamfered the muzzle so now it is SQUARE.

Anxious to get to da range this afternoon.

George, the original Q was whether Green Tag was "standard velocity." I inferred that this meant "not high velocity," but realized I might be guessing wrong. It could have been "when people use these two terms, are they talking about the exact same box of CCI ammo?" [No.] I answered in the spirit of getting closer to an answer by passing along the info that was immediately available. The chart I mentioned, btw, has muzzle/50yd/100yd numbers for their unspecified test bbl. length.

1) Green Tag is loaded to be subsonic from any length bbl.
2) CCI has another ctg. with the name "Std. Velocity," w/ the same size projectile traveling at the same velocity as Green Tag's.
3) I characterized my answer thus: Midway ...940... from a 6" bbl. and ... 1070 fps .for whatever their test bbl. was

Topgun has now (since your post, I admit) clarified the Q: "will Green Tag damage my High Standard Trophy?" It sounds like the answer is that it won't hurt it.

To try all the improvements to my gun.

Amazing!

Highly recommend Jim Barta...........(Jim Spacek's Hi Standard forum)

The HS in question LOVES Green Tag ....and......Win T22

T22 is faaaarrrrrrrrr cheaper and for my level of expertise, just fine until I can keep em ALL in the 2" Shoot N See spot OFFHAND at 25 yds.

I am now back to a 4" offhand group shooter. Have lost a LOT of practice and ability in 35 years.

Hello, Topgun!

My High Standards eat Green Tag and Standard Velocity equally well. Some High Standards won't feed C.C.I. .22 caliber rounds, but mine do—or the two without feeding problems, anyway. I've never been able to discern an accuracy difference between the two rounds, so I shoot the Standard Velocity.

Anything hotter in a High Standard most probably will crack the right side of the frame in the near vicinity of the slide release lever. I've looked at several cracked and "repaired" High Standards over the years, and left all in the gun shops: they're never accurate again.
