Those of you who weren't there missed a FUN TIME!

We started off by meeting at Bull Run around noon. Nine total, I believe, with one member showing up later after negotiating one of Northern Virginia's all-too-common traffic jams...

A lot of you have seen the crowing I've done about how well I can shoot wobble trap... I regularly run 22/23 out of 25 in that event.

Well, wobble was jammed today, so we shot 5-stand, which is a sporting clays type game done in a limited space venue, but with really challenging shots.

I got a SEVERE spanking! 8 of 25 the first round and... er... 4 of 25 the second round! :(

Well, after that we adjourned for a late lunch and then hit the NRA Range for some rifle and handgunning.

Some neat guns, but I think MaxKnight's father Chris wins the neatest gun of the day award! A limited-edition Pedersoli copy of a Remington Rolling Block in .45-70, done up Creedmore style with the heavy wood and Creedmore tangent sight. I would LOVE to get that thing out to a range and work it through its paces from 100 to 1000 yards!

Penguin also brought a very sweet stainless Beretta 96 in .40 that's been worked over. The first time I shot one of those, and it was well worth the experience. EXCELLENT trigger, nice sights, recoil wasn't bad, and as an added exta, Crimson Tide laser grips. :)

MagKnightX, not MaxKnight, actually, but close enough.

And given that it was my first time on a shotgun, and that I had never even heard of five-stand before, I did fairly well. 7/25 on the first round, and 9/25 on the second. My father got 5/25 first and 1/25 second, and my brother got 7/25 and 6/25.

The NRA range was possibly even better. Penguin's Beretta was, as stated, VERY fun, and I was able to fire 2 1911s one a SA Mil-Spec (Mike's) and one a SA Loaded, I believe (I forget who had that, a SIG in .45, two .357 mag revolvers, one a Ruger Blackhawk and one a S&W 19, both owned by the same person with the Loaded. Also tryed a Walther PP in .32 and somebody's .44 Mag, which seemed to kick less than the 1911s, and finally, an M1 Carbine. Everybody got a turn on my P99, and some people got to use the 10/22. A fun day for all!

After coming home, I cleaned my handguns while watching the commentary track on the Legally Blonde DVD. Is that allowed, or will I have to turn in my NRA range card? :D

MagKnightX, the SA Loaded and the revolvers belonged to Mr. James, but the SIG .45 was mine. We were just sharing the same lane.

I had to suffer through Patuxent River Appreciation Days in Solomons MD, with fried oysters, clams, crab soup, pit BBQ, cold Bud, and other goodies. Bought a few chances on a canoe, fishing rod/reel in support of local service clubs. NOt too bad, but was more in teh mood to make some joyous noise with a little torque and recoil. I'll get by . . .

chaim, I'd already seen the movie 3 times on cable, but I'd just bought the DVD that day so I wanted to check out the special features. I watched the movie again yesterday with my mom. :o

I did try to balance it out by buying the We Were Soldiers DVD. :D

It's not your fault, but you have answered a question that has been bugging me.
Where in heck did some those shells go I reloaded without shot? Darn things show up in the darndest places. And NO I don't want them back...darn things still show up for me...even found some in factory loads...go figure.;)

I watched the movie again yesterday with my mom. Hmm, I guess that is ok (almost).:p

Now if you watch it because you like to watch the star that might be ok too- I've watched my share of "chick flicks" for that reason before. I've seen some pretty bad movies because they have Sandra Bullock or Minnie Driver in them (though I certainly haven't seen all their movies).

I did try to balance it out by buying the We Were Soldiers DVD. In that case you are still a member of the brotherhood. You gave me a scare though.:evil:

I think I scored 7/25 both times on 5-stand. However, I think I managed to get both clays on a rabbit-high house simul, which was my best shot of the day. 5-stand was fun, and seemed easier than sporting clays even if my score was no higher.
