I need to figure out something that will work to remove the recoil lug (crossbar) from a Mauser stock. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. Found a wrench made just for this on Brownell's for $19.69. I would have spent that much in money and labor trying to get a screwdriver ground down right.

With the nut removed, you still have to drive the recoil lug out, so be careful you don't take a chip out of the stock. Those lugs can be in very hard to remove, and are often rusted in place. I recommend not removing them unless necessary for replacement.

Thanks. I plan on being careful. I need to remove it so I can blue it. When I took the Russian laquer off there was no bluing underneath. I don't want to get any bluing on the stock, so I'm taking it out. I also want it out so I can clean up the area before I finish the stock. If it doesn't want to budge, I'll have to see what I can do about bluing it in place.
