Has anyone seen a crack inside a P7 PSP slide?

There is a hairline crack inside the slide of one of my P7 PSPs. It is in the weld, next to the firing pin housing, on the side of the ejection port. It is approx. 1/4" long. It was made in 1982.

Has anyone else seen one of these? I've heard it occurs in a lot of P7s made in the early 80s and I'm trying to decide if it's a problem or should I return the gun.

Thanks,
Steve

Since no one has answered your questions, maybe you should head on over to www.parkcitiestactical.com and see if they can give you a hand.

Thanks for the info, Schuey. I tried over there, but didn't get much response. Thought I'd try over here.

Thanks again,
Steve

You could try www.hkpro.com . My PSP is the same age and has at least 10,000 rounds through it without any problem. But a crack is a crack, did you ask HK ?

Try showing your PSP to a local armorer & see what they have to say or just skip that step & go straight to HK.

Steve,
I just picked up my PSP tonight. Unfortunatly, my gun cleaning stuff is packed away bacause we are moving so I can't clean it very well.

Where is the weld cracked? On the end near the ejection port, the end towards the butt, somewhere in the middle? Also, does the crack seem to align with the joint that it is bonding?
The reason I ask is because I think I MIGHT see a tiny (less than 1mm) flaw in the weld about 3/5ths of the way back from the ejection port end of the weld. The strange thing is that it isn't located in line with the joint. Seems like an unlikely stress area. Guess I'll have to dig my gun stuff out of the mini storage and check it out properly.

Sorry for all the questions; I don't know much about these pistols but I want to learn/collect any info I can.

PS: Mine is dated 12/83, SN 618XX

Mine is cracked at the rear of the weld, towards the back of the slide. It is in the center of the weld, not at the joints.

I've contacted HK, by the way. They say it's not under warranty any more and they don't fix these. They said they would sell me a new slide at around $400. Uhhh... yeah... sure...

Still reviewing my options.

Tell HK to give you a new slide or you will take them to your local small claims court...bet ya get a new slide...

Wildalaska,

Why would they have to give me a new slide, if the gun is out of warranty?

Thanks again,
Steve

If you take it to local small claims they are not likely to show up which means by default the judgement will go to you.

I'm not even close to being a lawyer but I think that is what is going on. It might be a trick to get them to pay the judgement. If the didn't they could be held in contempt right?

Maybe wildimsureheknowsmoreaboutthelawthanidoalaska will clarifiy.

They manufactured a defective and unsafe product if the slide is cracked. Tell them to hire a lawyer to fight it, bet it costs em more than $400.
