So let's say your pro RTKBA and it's finally just gone here in the good ol US of A; And you have decided to pack it in, and pull it out. Renouncing your citizenship, cashing in all assetts any whathaveyou. Where would you go, that you can still enjoy the rights you feel are paramount? Are there any places left in the world as free/ or free'er than the U.S. gun-wise? It's a Hype? so you have too choose elsewhere. No staying and fighting on this thread, that's been talked about elsewhere. Just Choose.:)

Switzerland or New Zealand, but it's hard to emmigrate there. Eastern European countries with loose gun laws are tempting ... but I'd come back to the states for health/dental care.

Didnt know there were any Eastern Eoupean states that had "loose" gun laws. Which ones? and what do you mean by loose?:) I dont think (THINK) they have any type of ccw in NewZealand...Do they?

friend of mine here is saying Costa Rica has negligible taxes AND negligable gun laws. As in "fork over the cash, buy anything you want"

He plans on taking the family on a vacation out there soon to see how much of the stories are true. Thinking I might ask to tag along and see for myself. :)

New Zealand's formerly reasonable gun laws have pretty much gone down the tubes of late. Switzerland's aren't too terrible bad, but clouds are on the horizon there, too. :(

Staying right where I am has a certain appeal; this neck of the woods has a long history of not havin' too much truck with flatlanders tellin' 'em what to do...

If I had to expat, it would be to Costa Rica or the Czech Republic. There are other good choices, but those are my first two.

You can effectively buy Costa Rican citizenship for like $10k (last I heard), and still keep your American citizenship. That'd be my destination of choice, especially since not renouncing my US Citizenship would give me the ability to return to the US should the SHTF elsewhere.

Similar to Tam's situation...
Not much flatlander disease close to me.

Shoot....even the UPS driver can't find me.

nice qui(et) little place in south america somewhere, perhaps mexico or a bannana republicBigJake, a Bannana Republic with cute counter help? Thought about taking over one or two of those myself...:D

Realisically, I have no idea. If I wanted to do anything without people looking at me crosseyed, it would probably be near my mom's house.

I've heard some positive things about Panama, maybe now edging out Costa Rica as a expat haven. Specifically, the banking privacy laws.

Here's home.

Sometimes you've just gotta stand and fight, and I already know I'd avoid it if I could, but here I am and here I'll stay.

There are some times where there simply isn't a backup plan, because none is acceptable.

'twat I think...

FWIW, I've good neighbors, and we're a bit out of the urban areas, so we'd have a chance, if everyone cooperates, which is, of course, unlikely.

Still, here I am, and here I stand!

What about Norway? I heard everything is legal there. They even have machine gun shoots for little kids.

Not a chance. Sad to say, there's not another nation on the face of the earth that offers as much as the U.S.A. in terms of individual rights. Our rights are under attack, to be sure, but we're winning more than losing.

The point of the matter is that, with the possible exception of Switzerland, no country on Earth offers gun laws as reasonable as those in the average U.S. state and running water at the same time; certainly no modern Western nation has gun laws as lax as those in Arizona... If you think the right to own guns is essential to your well-being, then there's noplace for you to expat to: your back is already against the wall.

It was a hypothetical question, I would never give up. But you avoided the question to make a statement, very off subject if you ask me. I agree with and understand your feelings. I was asking about countrys that are pro-RTKBA not if you would stay and fight or not. I actually made it very clear in the question. So Flame away Tam.:D

If you read between the lines, I addressed my view of that question in my responses... ;)

According to Dave Kopel
The only other nation with a right to arms in its constitution is Mexico. As stated in Article 10: "The inhabitants of the United Mexican States have the right to possess arms in their homes for their security and legitimate defense with the exception of those prohibited by federal law and of those reserved for the exclusive use of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and National Guard. Federal law shall determine the cases, conditions and place in which the inhabitants may be authorized to bear arms."
Mexico??? Yeah, right. Wonder whats prohibited besides anything military-caliber-wise? Do they still use 30-06, 20 ga and .44 special in their military?
You want rights in another country? Buy 'em. As long as the green crosses the right palm, with the proper frequency, you're good to go.

Gee whiz keederdag, wouldn't it just be easier to stay here and be a criminal like the rest of the gun-owning populace? You know the old saying, "When Guns are outlawed...Only outlaws will have guns. An I'll be an outlaw too."

Adios

Like I said, never givin up. A hypothetical question duder:D Me, I cant stand to worry; so a long, long time ago I made a promise to myself that I'd allways have a gun reguardless. Back on track:Wonder about Mexico though, could a guy just cross the right palm and be good to go forever? I kinda think not. They change their minds down there alot. You own stuff, now you don't; you can have this , now you cant. Still wondering about the Eastern Eoupean country's someone said were good on gun rights. i thought they were all pretty anti? Course, until fairly recently, I did'nt think you could even own any type of gun in Russia.

If the 2nd Amendment went the way of the dodo, I'd head somewhere that would be peaceful in comparison to the mess left in the US, like say, the West Bank.

IMO the primary factor for ranking the RKBA of a nation, is the presence of a national shall issue CCW law.

Nations such as New Zealand, Switzerland*, Finland and Norway, which are considered to have "lax" gun laws by Western standards do not have shall issue CCW legislation.

Shall issue CCW really is unique to the United States. The other nations mentioned do have their own advantages [e.g. silencers, automatic weapons, etc] in relation to gun laws, but it is often mainly for militia service purposes.

South Africa and Papua New Guinea used to allow foreigners to CCW. I expect this has probably changed now, especially for South Africa

Within Eastern Europe I know Croatia and the Czech Republic have long traditions of gun making/ownership and hunting. The European Union though is likely going to 'persuade' the respective governments to toughen up on gun legislation in exchange for EU membership or other perks.

*IIRC expect for some rural cantons. Mussi ?
