I have been thinking about doing some varmint competitions (targets up to 300 yards) but was not sure what I should get to start. I do not have a lot of money to start and so I have been putting it off. Today I went into Dicks Sporting Goods and saw a Rossi .223 single shot with a scope for $230. Is this a gun that I could start shooting a local competition with or is it a waste of money? Is the quality of this gun worth buying? Any help with this would be great.

I picked one up. Intended the little thing for shooting coyotes. Wound up putting a Leupold scope on it.
An OK shooter, but probably not competitive.
