Ever hear of him? He posts on the Democratic Underground website. I've read his posts in one of the forums that does in fact allow debate on the gun issue. MrBenchley often says that Pro-gun Democrats (Even if they agreed on every issue with him other than with guns) are not true Democrats, and says that the NRA and other pro-gun groups are responsible for the "mass slaughter of our children".

He's been cornered on many occasions by pro-gun liberals, saying that dealers on a regular basis do not do NICS checks and 4473's on gun purchases, and he never responds.

His avatar in DU is that of New Jersey.

This guy screams loud mouth anti-gun activist who will never be changed.

His sig line is this:

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic State itself. That, in its essence, is Fascism — ownership of government by an individual, by a group or by any controlling private power."--FDR

His argument for gun control and against the NRA.

Does this guy match the profile of any anti-gun activists up there in New Jersey? I'd like to expose this fool.

Edited to add:

I actually have witnesses that saw him state (something to the effect of) that his objective was to completely ban handguns in NJ.

A certain amount of compassion is called for in dealing with him, as he is motivated by the murder of his brother by firearm.

Heard a discussion today by a solid New Jersey legislator that liberal Republicans aren't Republicans at all. There is hope and there are loads of good people in New Jersey. Yes, it's much easier to move to Pennsylvania and we just might, but don't despair - not yet. I'll let you know when it's time to despair.:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I'd be much more inclined to believe the brother was murdered by a criminal.

His brother was an FBI agent tragically killed in the line of duty. There'd probably be more FBI agents killed in the line of duty if they were disarmed like the rest of us. At least he had a fighting chance and I'm not sure if he'd approve of his brother's behavior. The FBI agents who I've spoken with certainly don't.

If he'd actually *debate* instead of using terms such as 'what a pantload', 'what a maroon', etc, I'd have some compassion for him.

Instead, he uses ad homs and invective as a substitute for facts and reason when you try to debate him.

Not all antis do that. I've had some good debates with antigun people who are polite and know how to debate. Benchley only knows how to insult and inflame.

As it is, I have no compassion for Benchley at all.

I've heard on ARFCOM that MrBenchley is a progunner cleverly disguising himself as a severe anti to fragment DU into pro/anti-gun democrats.

His rhetoric is too extreme for some of the more moderate DU'ers and the working class demos that may be pro-gun but vote that way because of the Union.

He is almost parodying the Liberal, Democratic anti by being so perfect.
- Hates ALL guns
- Never argues fact. Only emotion and ad hom attacks
- Lies and exaggerates. See 4473/NICS comments above.
- He is spouting crap RIGHT from the VPC/Brady Bunch playbook.
- Never listens to anybody that doesn't toe his line, he puts his fingers in his ears and hums.
- He seems to sniff out Gun threads like a bloodhound and doesn't post much out side them. If he does post outside a gun thread, he cleverly turns it into a gun/2A thread.

And best of all? It seems to work. He's got some DUh'ers licking his boots while others are wanting to distance themselves from him and his anti gun views, only to be attacked by MrBenchley and his little army. He may actually push some fencesitting democrats over to the pro-RKBA/Conservative side. Hell, ONE would be a victory.

I may be wrong, but if I'm right, it's the greatest hose-job ever.

HOLY CRAP!!! I can't believe I didn't think of that!

Nevermind. Mods, can you delete this entire thread or put it somewhere where it cannot be found? Don't want the DU'ers to know what's going on.

I have delt with Mr Benchley and am willing to believe he is a troll, he does not seem to have any reason or motive just blind anti gun hate. He is so irrational it is not even funny and does nothing but start flame wars and raise blood pressure. I believe he ultimately hurts the anti group by being so *taking the high road* irrational. This guy lives for flame wars.
