Sig P239 in 9mm for IDPA Competition?

8 rd. mags. 10 rd. are available. Does anyone use a P239 in IDPA competition? Any reason not to?

If you like the Sig and can shoot it well then by all means use it. I would recommend getting 10 round mags so you will not have any extra reloads to contend with. IDPA events are revolver friendly so they usually have 18 rounds per stage so by useing 10 round mags you only have one change. You should have at least 4 mags one of which you will use as a charging mag. IDPA allows a max of 11 rounds in the gun at the start and a max of 10 rounds per reload mag. When you come to the line you will have 2 mags in a belt pouch and 2 in pocket, you take one pocket mag and load the chamber, remove and pocket that mag and insert the other pocket mag. You now have a fully charged (11 rounds) pistol and two spare mags so you are good to go.

I would agree that if you have it and want to shoot it in IDPA - do so. One of the desirable aspects of IDPA is that you can (in most cases) shoot your carry gun. It can be one of the least expensive "formal" shooting games. The down side is as a DA/SA pistol you will be in the Stock Service Pistol category competing against folks starting with 10+1 and reloading with 10. But, that part would only matter (or not) to you. My vote is to shoot it. Howard.

The gun must fit The Box (8.75" x 6" x 1.625") with magazine in place. I don't know if a P239 with single stack 10 round 9mm magazine will do so, but you should before you stock up.

You must use the same magazine capacity throughout, not an 8 to fit The Box and 10s otherwise.

I would not buy a P239 for the purpose, but if that was the best gun I had, I would definitely shoot it for IDPA. I have seen some in use.

Without actually measuring my 239 with a 10 round mag in it, I don't believe it will fit in the box either, but, if you are just shooting local matches, check with your match director and he/she will most likely let you use them, but, maybe not for score.

If I have a big match coming up, our local match director will let me use an "open" gun, just so I can get the trigger time, but, if I use an "open" gun, I usually limit myself to head shots only.:D

By all means, use your P239. What a sweet little carry piece. I always have an extra measure of respect for those who shoot what they really carry. Besides, it's nice to see something on the line besides a Glock 17/19/34 for a change! (And how many of those G17 shooters actually pack a 26...)

I've used mine a couple of times, and being "stock" the only thing that screws me up is the first shot, double action, if the target is more than 15 yards away.

Why not? Dance with the one that brung you. You will benefit greatly from the IDPA experience and be a better and safer carrier for it.
