sent me some Small rifle primers, Winchester Lot no. PDL428G, and even though I know they are pre-Y2K, I'd like to find out exactly how old they are..I've searched the world over and can't find any way to figure out the age by the lot number. By the way, I also purchased several 'vintage' primers at a gun show recently, and would like to find out how old those are, too.

Unless they have been subjected to extremes in temperature, they will be fine. I have quite a number of pre Y2K primers (some by a lot), still going strong.

I have no idea how to actually date your primers short of asking the manufacturer.

Primers last an extremly long time. I recently shot some Mil-Surplus that was dated 1957 and they all went bang.

Ditto here...I've used 15-20 year old primers for practice/plinking loads with 100% fire rate. :)
