I carry a M&P .45 ACP from Smith and Wesson. It is the one gun that was slightly less costly than a 1911 Colt Combat Commander at the time. Both guns were good in my hand, racked easily etc etc...
But ultimately the .45 has nothing on it except a slide lock. Basically idiot proof if you please for me. I can do shotguns all day with thier safeties etc.
Just my gun that I chose as a first gun. I am aware that there is a bit of conflict with Glock in the past and other things. But 500 rounds of 230 grains and counting and no failures yet except I was new and didnt know better.
One word of warning, Get your grip down low. That slide will bite you on the recoil. Dont ask how I know.

I been in law enforcement for thirty years and have carried many pistols for off duty. I purchased a 380 Kel tec about 5 years ago and found with a pocket clip, extended magazine, and hydrashock or corbon ammo I am more likely to carry it all the time. The weapon you are most likely to carry all the time is the best choice.

Today? I'm carrying my Kahr P45 in a UBG IWB holster, in a pair of shorts, no belt. I'd rather be carrying my Kimber Ultra CDP, but the Kahr weighs 18 oz vice the Kimber's 24 oz. (Note: with a belt, I can do the Kimber)
During the heat of summer? I'll probably revert to my Kahr PM9. Fourteen ounces and 6+1 of 9mm +p+ is hard to beat.
When winter returns? I love my N-frames, when I can conceal them. Require a real belt, and a cover garment (sweatshirt/jacket).
Bottom line...there is no one answer. Lots of variables, lots of choices. Of course, you could carry an LCP/P3AT year round (some do). If you live in Miami I guess that might be the answer.
Most of us live where the weather changes, and carry accordingly.

Right now I carry either a 2 1/2" k frame 357 in the appendix position with a cheap Uncle Mikes IWB hoster, or a 442 pocket carry with the DeSantis Nemesis. Sometimes I carry both with the pocket holster in the weak hand position.
I like the simple reliabilty of revolvers. I also carry a speed strip for a reload. I know speed strips are slower than speed loaders, but they sure pocket carry better. I do practice reloading with the strips too.

.45 is my fave, but the .38 is more comfortable and practical, goes with me everywhere.

I've carried a Walther PPK/S in .380 for a long time now. It's 100% reliable, I can tear it down and put it back together in the dark, and it's as accurate in my hand as anything I ever take to the range, just because I've worked with it for so long. I wouldn't think of leaving home without it.

Second that except my 642 rides in a Uncle Mike's pocket holster. I have a Glock 19 and a Ruger P345 that I like alot but the little 642 wins out most of the time because it is easy to carry, chambered in a reliable caliber, works every time I pull the trigger.
It's nice to have the option to carry a bigger, higher capacity gun, but I figure that the best one for me is the one that I will always have on my person. While it is true that a small revolver can have some con's, (mainly in capacity. I usually carry a speedloader or 2 as well. ) I find that it is the first thing that I put in my pocket in the morning and the last thing that I take out of them at night. I don't feel like I can ask for any better than that for my needs.

When you say "favorite CCW gun" it implies a compromise between concealability and firepower. Given that, my current favorite is the Kahr MK9, an all steel 9mm with 6+1 capacity. The gun conceals better than anything else I own, yet offers significant firepower with Federal HST 147 grain hollowpoints. It is easy to shoot accurately at medium range because of a smooth DAO trigger, good sights and 24 ounce weight. It came with a 7 round extended magazine that I wear in the weak side pocket in a Desantis pocket mag carrier.
My holster is a Comp-Tac 2 o'clock for appendix carry, where the gun is almost invisible yet draws very rapidly, even while seated.

Right now it's my new Kahr K9. Once I find a suitable IWB solution, it'll probably be my *only* carry until winter with my Sig 220.
I can't speak for everyone here, but a large majority of 'experienced' permit holders tend to go smaller/thinner/lighter with their CC weapons. Larger guns are great at the range but get uncomfortable carrying all day.

Until now if I carry it's a XD-40 service usually. Sometimes a Ruger P-944. However I recently bought a Keltec P-11 that I'm thinking will probably get carried a lot. I was looking for a smaller size. I just have to find some jacketed hollow points & figure out which holster to get first.

My favorite is what I shoot the best: 1911s and Glocks. I view a CCW pistol as a tool that is to not be seen, so aesthetics are unimportant to me. I carry my Glocks when I know I will enter gun-free zones, so I don't worry about the finish. I carry my 1911s when I know I don't have to leave them in my vehicle.
Always carry a primary handgun, and back-up handgun in the same caliber, and which uses an interchangeable magazines (i.e. Glock 19 and Glock 26 carrying G19 magazines). Just as a point of clarification, my one Advanced Tactical Shooting instructor has been in law enforcement for about 25 years. In that time, he has experienced 3 revolvers break, and 3 autoloaders break.
In terms of ammo, I like Winchester Personal Defense 230 grain HPs for the 1911s, and Winchester Ranger +P+s for the Glocks.

Usually just an SKS down my right pants leg. I use crutches so I can keep my leg straight without looking too suspicious. My primary carry is a Smith and Wesson M&P 40 compact model with CTC laser grips. I carry it in a Smart Carry. I am also thinking about adding a MTAC IWB holster or Galco OWB holster to the mix.

I carry two at alternating times. One is my Charter Arms Undercover .38, which I've owned since 1987. The other is my Bersa Thunder .380 autoloader.
I like 'em both and, to me, it's kind of like picking either my blue cap to wear, or my slightly darker blue cap to wear. In other words, I guess I don't prefer either; I just like 'em both. The .38 is more comfortable, though, in my manner of carry (IWB, between belt and pants, to rear of strong side.)

There seems to be a wide varitiy to the "perfect carry gun" but as a wise man once said the best thing to bring to a gun fight is a gun!! That having been said I LOVE my Kel-Tec P3AT. It is so light that I can carry it in the pocket of my Bermuda shorts (which living in Florida I wear most of the time) and not hardly notice it is there. 38 SW snubbie in Desantis Nemesis. In my humble opinion (and I am not an expert but own a 9mm, 45, 380, and the 38) the SW snubbie is the best compromise between smallest "print" and caliber. Loaded with Speer GDHP for short barrels.
I honestly am not able to carry the 45 (Kimber Pro CDP) or the 9mm without seriously printing, and the 380 is perhaps too small a caliber.
Sincerely,

-Auto, simply because it holds more rounds than a revolver.
-Glock is point and shoot, no safeties to mess with and worry about when you are under a lot of stress.
-The 27 is small enough to easily conceal for me, but large enough to fit well in my hands and holds an adequate ammount of ammo.

I started off carrying a Kahr .40, ended up with the Xd compact in .40. Do your self a favor shoot one. You will fall in love with it. Carries a lot of rounds, (and for me) very very accurate for a 3” barrel.

Most often its a 3" Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry, always
backed up by a KEL-TEC P3AT .380 auto. Sometimes, I
revert to my Smith & Wesson 642/442 with the same BUG~! :scrutiny: ;)

I love the Egro's and its accurate. I prefer DA/SA w/ decocker for ccw. Plus it's my wife's favorite gun. Now we have two, I like knowing the gun I carry is one she is comfortable with, same mags etc.

3" model 13 with a bobbed hammer, and Eagle Secret Service grips.
Stoked with Speer Gold Dot 357's. I love that revolver.

I carry either a S&W 36 with Hogue grips or P3AT sometimes. I like the revolver best.

Depends on the days mission:
Ruger lcp, keltec p32 in a pocket holster, soon a small pouch type IWB holster
Walther ppk/pps (not owned by me yet)
Kahr pm40 (not owned)
Glock 19,23 In a Mtac
Kimber TLE in a Miltsparks VM2 or Mtac
I pick the size pistol(s) that I can conceal and go with the heavies caliber in that size gun. For example a Glock 23 will allmost allways be carried before a 23.
.40 and .45acp for me.
