I would like to know what the numbers and lines are on the brass slides represents is it in grains or what, new at this?

Just think of them as a reference point but even then, depends on how you're using it. It has 3 movable slides but unless loading rifle, you likely not use the large (bottom) one. If only using the top (marked in increments) or top 2, it gives you a fairly repeatable reference but since all 3 slides can move, for any true value they have to be precisely aligned. I don't use mine any more but when I did I just looked at the increments as a point to "get me in the ball park" and refined the throws by trial & error.
