Temporary shotgun slings

"Back in the day" as they say, when I used to deer hunt with shotguns, it seems everybody and his brother had a nylon sling that slipped a loop over the barrel, then had a "net" or pocket" that slipped over the end of the stock. When you got to where you were going to hunt, you just slipped it off and put it in your pocket.

Anybody know if they're still made? I don't recall seeing one in a long time.

Somebody on another forum was looking for one and I believe someone else said Cabels, BassPro, or Sportsman's guide had them. I know they are still around. I used to have to do a lot of hiking to get to some of my duck spots, and I quickly installed regular sling posts on everything but my nicer doubles.

Actually it was a conversation on another forum that made me remember them. I had a regular sling on my Mossberg pump gun, so I never bought one. I was just wondering if they were still around.

Michael's of Oregon - about $22.

Clothesline works if you don't have to walk too far.

Academy Sports also sells one like this. I put one on my 870 (I have a Lasermax on it and can't install a conventional sling stud)

Here are 4 different ones to choose from:

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/common/search/search-results1.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&hasJS=true&_D%3AhasJS=+&sort=all&QueryText=shotgun+sling&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23

And a leather/canvas version for a more traditional look:

Here are several examples of attachment free slings. I have several cheap ones and some not so cheap. The first is a traditional leather sling and is more pricey than the others.

I carry the Brown Bag Sling by Outdoor Connection when bird hunting. Simple, lightweight and cheap. It carries in the game bag pocket and can be used on long hikes into the hunting area or when you don't have enough hands to carry the gun and dog when stuck in the middle of a 1/2 section of field with nothing but prickers and goat heads. It's been used on SxS, O/U's and pumps without issue.
