Just saw this very informative auction-description
on my local "gunbroker"-site:

H&K made in times, when normal german cops carried PPKs in 7,65.
So an 18 shot - burst-option combat pistol seemed way too
futuristic for those times.

i have never even heard of this gun - till today.

I've only ever handled one of these, the normal non burst model. It has a very heavy trigger as I recall. The burst mode is only possible with the stock attached. Polymer use before Glock...what a novel idea. :neener:

I had an opportunity to buy one for a nominal price a few years ago but passed. I now wish I'd bought just for the collection value. You don't often see them or the P9 for that matter.

Remember "once a maching gun, always a machine gun", also wouldn't having both parts (pistol/stock) be "constructive possession" of a SBR. I bought one of thease back when they were closing them out, pistol and 5 18 round magazines for about $400. This is a big pistol, but you can smooth out the trigger pull.

I'd always wanted one of those, but I'm not sure I would describe it as the first PDW.

When I was younger, I would have given my left nugget for a Beretta 93R, I thought they were the business.

I have heard of and seen these guns before. I believe it is considered the first polymer framed production pistol. I didn't know there was a police version with three round burst. Very interesting! Thanks for the post.

Yeah, I heard it from somewhere that H&K pioneered the polymer framed pistol, not Glock. And this is their first polymer model that came out around the 70's.

I have one and love it.

You can get a trigger spring to reduce the heavy pull from Wolff gunsprings. It works wonders. First centerfire semi-auto I ever bought.

Rare! The 1st PDW - H&K VP70 - ahead of it´s time!

Actually, my 2 cents is that the 1st PDW was actually the Mauser Broomhandle with the detachable stock....

and if we really wanted to go back, than the real 1st PDW would have been a rock thrown at somebody in anger.:)

Actually Resident Evil 2 was the first time I ever heard of a Desert Eagle, and I have to admit, I've never been able to truly shake the desire to own one after that.

The VP-70 on the other hand made a bad first impression on me.

I hadn't realized that you could pick up the shotgun in the gun shop on my first attempt. The VP-70 proved very ineffective against the Licker later on.

I have heard that wolff makes a replacement spring that will improve the trigger pull a bit. I know mine is just horrible, and its not even the fact that the trigger is so heavy, but how far back it has to travel, i mean good god the break is so far back I have to change my grip. If it had a decent trigger, I would buy 5 of them!

The reason for the heavy trigger pull and all the travel was because the weapon was designed for firing 3-round bursts in a DAO configeration.

People who whine about the trigger are exagerating drama queens.

It's a great collector's item, but I wouldn't recommend it for everyday carry.
