Salt Lake Police Chief Rick Dinse has joined the board of directors for the Gun Violence Prevention Center of Utah.

Center board president Toni Marie Sutliff made the announcement in a press release this past week.

She said Dinse's public safety perspective will provide the center's 10-member board with invaluable information as it works toward greater gun safety for the community.

Dinse said he appreciates GVPC's common-sense approach to gun violence issues.

"I believe the efforts of the Gun Violence Prevention Center play a critical role in public safety," Dinse said in the release. "I agree with their approach to gun violence as a public health issue."

The Gun Violence Prevention Center of Utah is a non-profit, community-based organization that works on education and policy issues related to gun violence. Its mission is to end the violence and suffering resulting from the misuse of firearms.

Information about GYPC is available at www.gvpc.org.

FYI:
The Gun Violence Prevention Center... ...believe that we need to, and can, do far more to protect society from the misuse of guns. We also believe it is possible to accomplish this and still maintain the ability of citizens to own and possess guns for legitimate hunting, sporting and self-defense purposes.

The mission of the Gun Violence Prevention Center is to educate Utahns about the merits of such moderate gun-violence prevention measures as universal background checks, bans on the sale of military-style assault rifles, and limitations on the places where concealed weapons can be carried.

They support legitimate self defense by increasing the number of victim disarmament zones?

Sign me up.

Salt Lake folks, time to lobby your city government to boot this ninny.
