Here's an interesting Blog I found:
The poster goes by S-Train on that site, and revealed his real name to be Solomon Mason, with no indication of what state he's from.

Thy rod and thy staff...
It has been an eventful two days for me. Something my family and I probably won't forget in awhile. And it involves that gun you see to the right. That's my gun. A Mossberg 590 12-gauge pump-action shotgun. And I know how to shoot it and shoot it well.
About 1:25am EST on October 8th, I awoke to the sound glass breaking. It wasn't that drinking glass-breaking sound. It sounded like a window breaking. I proceeded into the family room (where I heard the sound). I peeked around the entrance and there is this guy just standing there looking around. Then I see another guy coming through the broken window. And then I noticed that the first guy is carrying a gun. Now I'm thinking at warp speed to myself, "Should I announce my presence or should I shoot?". But thinking about my family (wife and 7-month old downstairs, my 5 and 4 year old upstairs) won out. I quickly stepped out from where I was hiding and fired at the man with the gun approx. 10 feet away. He fell to the ground. I then pointed my shotgun at the broken window and I could see someone running away.
I looked at the man I shot. He was alive but in bad shape. He looked at me and said that I was lucky that I shot him since he was going to kill all of us ******s. I almost pointed my shotgun at his head and pulled the trigger. Thank God for my wife who lightly grabbed my wrist and said, "It's over baby, I called the police." All this time, my 5 and 4 year-old were watching from the balcony. They saw everything.
The police came and did their thing. The man was carrying a .357 Magnum and have three outstanding warrants. He's in serious but stable condition. I was scared that because of my gang history, self-defense was going to get nullified. The police assured me that that wouldn't be the case. Thank God again for the attacker's accomplice turning himself in and telling the police everything. So I'm really in good shape now.
Come to find out that the man's motive was that he hated black people. I just moved in a little over a week ago. The neighborhood is about 70% white and 30% black but he picked me and my family. I didn't want my children to see any kind of violence especially gun violence but they did. I had a talk with them about the bad man and that daddy had to use his gun. My five-year old says in her young logic, "Bad man won't mess with us again." No he won't. But it is still upsetting to me. They won't easily forget the image of me shooting him. But I just got keep on going and trust my daughters and my talk with them.
One thing that I keep thinking about was how cool I was during the incident. The gang life has never left me. It provided the ice in my blood to shoot to kill without pause. I have to make sure that I always walk the righteous path. Can't be led astray.

I wasn't going to post about this but thought to myself it would be good to share this. Someone may take some inspiration from this situation. As far as guns go, I didn't buy my shotgun until I had my first child. When I saw my oldest daughter's little face, I became fiercely protective and wanted to make sure I had a gun in my home just in case. That's as far as it goes.

I received some e-mail regarding why I blogged about this when I shot someone in self-defense and didn't talk to a lawyer. I'm sorry about not telling everything to the minute detail. I did get a lawyer immediately the next morning. When the attacker's accomplice turned himself in and gave to police all the details, it pretty much absolved me of any wrong doing. I asked my lawyer and the police if I could write about the situation on my personal website. As long as I used no names, gave no city location, police department name, and just described the situation as I gave it to the police, I was in no violation of anything. Yes, I do have to appear in court and will be blogging about that experience. But I can't tell you anymore details than that. I promise all of you that I will write a full detailed account of this as this progresses. And I will love to use the names and faces of my attackers for all of you to see when the law does its job.

I have to admit, I am still shaken about this and I'm writing is helping me. As far as credibility, anyone can choose to believe what they want. For me to write what I wrote was an extremely difficult decision for me. I thought about how people would perceive it. But when you have been where I have been in my life, I felt it needed to be said. My blog is about my opinions and experiences. And I'm going to write about them.
There's another update after that, but the author includes some language that would send Art's Gramma into the stratosphere. Some of the comments left by the other bloggers arent very nice, either.
