I'm getting ready to buy my first one.... does anyone have a "start to finish" walk thru of how to clean a revolver?

Thanks,
Jack

Revolvers are straight forward on the cleaning, a good way to learn to clean guns is to start with revolvers. Only thing easier would be a break-open shotgun!

Basically, I open the cylinder, put a rag in the frame so I don't smack into it with the cleaning rod. Dip the brush in the Hoppes, run through the barrel a few times. Dip again, run through the chambers a few times. Then, take one of those Toothbrush brass brushes, dip in solvent, and scrub the cylinder face, the frame, and the forcing cone.
Then, put your jag on, and run a few dry patches through the barrel and chambers. Wipe the gun down with a rag. Oil in places that need it, revolvers don't need much, couple drops here and there.

That's pretty much it. Depending on how dirty the ammo was, you can clean a revolver adequetly in a couple minutes.

(This is for cleaning after shooting jacketed bullets, lead bullets may need more scrubbing)

The only thing that would speed up the abovementioned process is a boresnake. The only drawback to the boresnake is that it doesn't "scrub" quite as well as the bristle-y things will if that's necessary.

I've never cleaned a revolver without removing the cylinder. I never will.

Actually, I prefer cleaning my HE finished HK USP9C than I do cleaning my stainless Ruger GP100.
I still need advice on the revolver. :(
I have trouble with scraping the rod. Aluminum shavings everywhere. Worse yet is the burn ring in the cylinder bores. Lousy .38/.357 alternating. :cuss:

Really a little patience, a good rag, some patches, solvent, lube, bore brush & a small screw driver is all you need. Cleaning is pretty straight forward...clean every millimeter ;)
