I'm eating lunch, and on TV.. (the brief version)

Man mugs someone.
The Mug-ee calls the police.
The Police arrive, and ask around, people say the mugger ran into THAT building.
The police surround the building.
Mugger saw one too many Jackie Chan movies.. Thinks to himself "If Jackie can jump from the roof top of one building to another, SO CAN I.."

:scrutiny:

So police hear a scream, look out the window.. Sees a dead man on the floor..

In the movie (I'm sure someone on the board will know which one) Jackie jumps feet first, from the rooftop of one building into the open door of another... So the man tries the same.. Missed the 19 foot gap between buildings by.. oh... 10 feet... (keeping in mind, feet first just like the movie)

Falls 6 stories down.. the neck is dangling in the news report that I saw..

BTW..

Man had on him, a stolen CZ-75.

"We heard a horrid scream, with doppler effect" was the comment from the police..

I don't even know what to say.. The stupidity of his Carl-Lewis / Jackie Chan long jump actions .... Words fail me.. 19 feet?? from the rooftop to another fire escape? Feet first?

Saved tax payers money at least.. If all muggers were this stupid, it'd save a lot of police work..

The more stupid criminals become, the less criminals we have.

IIRC, Jackie Chan cracked a bone in his foot when HE tried that stunt . . . under controlled conditions, too.

Reminds me of a scene from the new cop show, "10-8."

Drunk or druggie on roof of building. Rookie cop talks him into dropping his pistol. Thud - the guy throws it down.

Then the rookie cop says "Come down here."

Guy says OK . . . and steps off roof. Splat!

Training officer, in deadpan voice: "Maybe you should've told him to take the stairs."

Hilarious. But would he have been smarter somehow to dive headfirst? :scrutiny: Reminds me of when Homer tried that on the skateboard across the canyon. And how he was subsequently "rescued" by the ambulance team. Or, Evel Kneivel for that matter.

Once in awhile, criminals do the right thing.

Is the gun OK?

BamBam..

Good thing he was there.. he broke the gun's fall, and so the CZ-75 came out of the situation un-scathed.. :D

Had he actually just tried to jump "regularly", instead of trying to feet first torpedo, he might have survived.. (unlikely, but maybe) with quite a few broken bones yes.. but he dove feet first torpedo style, and didn't have enough velocity, and so landed on his neck..

There should be like an official building where criminals can try to jump the buildings.. if they make it, they get to walk, if they don't.. where be the spatula? :D

Sometimes when goin for max style points and difficulty multiplier,
Proper completion of the stunt is overlooked.

Sometimes that is a good thing.

Good thing he didn't try it with an assault weapon ... he might have made it. We better ban them all so stuff like this keeps happening!

Why run, don't the cops just carry cameras?
