Just wondering who out there has or has had a Browning BDM.

I really like mine, but I have heard that the BDM is cursed in general with all manner of problems, ranging from chronic inaccuracy to breakage to making frogs fall from the heavens... I would just like to see if anyone has seen anything like this happen. My BDM has been working fine from day one (knock on wood), and I really like it. What should I watch out for?

One of our guys shoots one all the time.
The slide cracked, he had it welded up. And again.
The firing pin broke, he replaced it.
He really likes the gun and shoots it best of any he has tried, so he keeps it repaired... and has two more in reserve for when he wears the first one out beyond repair.
I'd keep a spare firing pin, change recoil springs every once in a while, and shoot it.

I owned a BDM for a while.

I got it because my Hi-Power got stolen, and I wanted another Browning while I saved up for the next Hi-Power. (Got a GREAT deal on the BDM at a gun show).

Pros---very slim in profile, very easy to rack the slide, felt pretty good in the hand. The ability to switch between DA/SA function and DAO function was also cool.

Cons--safety and decocker seemed bassackwards to me....Also, the fact that the safety automatically goes on once you put in a new mag and drop the slide bothered me.

The firing pins on those things have a reputation for breaking.....I broke mine at the range.

Also, mine had the PC mags with it, and high capacity mags are very rare and very, very expensive.

I went back to the Hi-Power because the Hi-Power just feeeeeels goooooood in my hand...........

Now...Ive shot the gun but never owned one..so Im not qualified to answer the question.

But....When the frogs fall, do you try and shoot them before they hit the ground? :D

My NIB BDM has worked reliably in 2500+ rounds of factory ammo. My particular copy isn't as accurate as I'd like at 25 yards. However, at 12 yards and closer, for some reason, probably the grip ergonomics, I can actually shoot it more accurately with my offhand than using my right hand when practicing one-handed drills.
From reading others' posts, someone mentioned the BDM was engineered to shoot 10,000+ rounds of +P ammo. So I am not worried about its durability.
On the other hand, the BDM really needs some more engineering improvements IMHO. The last round in the magazine won't eject if chambered and then hand cycled. The safety is TOO stiff even if it follows the European doctrine of up-for-fire and down-for-safe.
I also bought the BDM video in which Bill Wilson demonstrated how to shoot it and clean it.
Finally, this is a great pistol for double action shot practice with the mode selection switch. You don't have to decock after every shot like other conventional DA pistols.
