Hello:

I am getting started reloading and have about 2000 brass 223 cases. About have has been reloaded once and came from Georgia Arms (good ammo). On about a third of the GA casings there as quarter inch scratches on the neck of the cartridge. My guess is that a die made the scratch since the scratches are in the same location on the brass. At first I thought they were cracks, but none go through the case. Are these safe to use? given the price of brass I hate to throw a lot a good brass away. Here is a picture and the scratches are most visible on the second and fourth rounds. Thanks for the help.

Not scratched from a die, as they are all clean & shiney, as opposed to the somewhat dull cases with powder fouling on the necks.

Most likely caused by a locking lug scratch in an AR or M-16 at they came out of the chamber.

The scratches further down on the main body are from magazine feed lips.

They are perfectly fine to reload, although they might eventually neck-crack there after enough reloading cycles.

I agree with rcmodel. They are fine to reload and the scratches are most likely from feeding and extraction from an AR. I reload cases that look worse than that and have not have a problem. Just make sure you check for cracks on subsequent reloadings.
