Reading the multiple shotgun forums I was led to believe that the new 870p's do not come equipped with the metal trigger assembly's anymore. Today I walk into my local gun shop and start examining a new 870p they had just got in, come to find out it does have a metal trigger assembly... So was this a internet rumor or what?

Purchased brand new roughly one year ago, my 870P has the plastic trigger guard. I think it's actually tougher, more impact resistant and matches my needs better than a cast metal one would.

Either way, metal or plastic, the 870P is a fantastic shotgun.

I believe my 870 Magnum manufactored summer of last year and purchased later that year has a metal trigger gaurd. It's all held in place by two pins.

I have not had any issues with it.

My older 870P has a metal trigger guard. However, I would not have a problem with the plastic guard, and would probably prefer it. There are a few plastic things in my life that are better off being plastic. Examples are my Glocks, my cell phone casing, my laptop casing, my snowboard bindings, etc. I've dropped my cell phone a few times, I think a similarly sized metal casing would be noticeably damaged and heavier!

I'm not arguing that metal is better. I'm just trying to confirm that Remington is in deed using plastic trigger assembly's on their new production 870p's. Can anyone confirm this?

Reading the above it looks like they may be using both metal and plastic.

For the straight scoop why not give Remington a call?
