Gentlemen,

Can anyone tell me with either words or picture (would be great) if there is any difference at all between the front sights of Pietta 1858 Remington and the Uberti 1858 Remington.
I saw a Pietta at the gunshow yesterday and it appeared to be stacked in and I heard but do not know if the Uberti is dove-tailed which is what I would prefer.

The Uberti fron sigth on the New Model Army is dove tailed into place & can be adjusted for windage.

You are right the Pietta New Model Army front sight is actually epoxied into place but like the Uberti they both can be filed down to bring the POI to the POA because both quite often will shoot low out of the box.

Thank you Voodoo-
Now if I can find someone that has one is stock-
I am personally torn between getting a SS or blue one- Either one I would need a spare cylinder or two-If blue I will have it changed to fire blue and a high blue case coloring and then add a Krist conversion.
I saw that the pietta shoulder stock is available for it. Not exactly historically correct but heck its a replica in the first place, right!!
I want to make whatever a cased setup if noting more than to keep it from getting banged around in the safe. Another idea is to case set a Remmy revolver along with a pistol!!!!!!!!! what do you think??

I don't recall my front sight posts being glued in. There may have been some glue there at one time but the front sight posts are screwed in. Remington (Pietta) 1858 New Model Army .44. I'vd taken mine out before just to make sure there was no rust or corrosion setting in. I'vd also watched the gunsmith unscrew and remove them and screw them back into place on the new barrels....

Gentleman;
You may be right as I've never had to remove any of my Pietta front sight posts but the replacement that I've gotten "for just in case many moons ago" did not have any threads cut into it so I assume that it is just epoxied into place.

Well, I thinks that takes care of how the Pietta front sight is installed- it is not dove tailed like the Uberti. Now where can I get a Uberti SS 1858 Remington? or even a blue one- might get a pair for grins and make a case set. I saw the pietta shoulder stock somewhere and might add that too just for grins- IF it will fit a Uberti. I think I saw the stock somewhere.

The front sight ramp on the adjustable sight Pietta Target model is held in place by a screw.

Voodoochile, I don't know. Maybe that's how they are nowadays. I know mine screw's in. BUT, I also remember the gunsmith telling me as I was watching him screw in one of the front sights that they used to be forced into the hole with lot's of pressure. It may well be that both of us are completely right..14th Alabama CSA..

Every Pietta I've had the front sight fall off of, or removed when shortening a barrel. looks to have been soldered in place, it might be a JB Weld type epoxy, but I've yet to see one with threads.

When the are removed, or fall off, I replace them with an Uberti front sight from VTIgunparts.com. The Uberti sight is taller as well, so it won't shoot high, or if too low, can be filed down.

Well, mine screw's in. That's all I know. Have pictures to prove it. There was a big discussion about this same topic on here about 3 years ago....14th Alabama CSA.

14th Alabama CSA.

I used to be in the Dixie Artillery when I was in the N-SSA but that was over 15 years ago too.

Voodoochile..I evidently misunderstood your last remark concerning 'Dixie Artillery'. I sign the way I do sometimes because I'm from Alabama plus some of my relations fought with the 14th in the War Between the States..14th Alabama CSA.

Buffalo Arms.com has the Uberti 1858 in stainless. Both 5 and 8" barrel lengths. Dixie Gun Works also carries Uberti and Pietta in stainless steel.
