So the local cabelas has 870's on sale, wood stock. But I can't find the specs, other than they are $280. They look standard around 20" barrel, but I can't find the model on remington's site. And wondered if anyone knew the barrel length or these. Chamber size, and round count.

And this shotgun would be used for HD, Wife wanted a HD gun, but did not want a small gun she would be comfortable wearing all day. So she decided on a pump shotgun, (birthday present)

I would like to use slugs, so want a cylinder bore, but can't find the specs on the gun, So I also looked at barrels. And a 18" "police" barrel was $120, with the cylinder bore. But that would put the guns cost at $400, not bad since it would have 2 barrels.

But does anyone know this exact model? I didn't get a chance to look, and was 30 mins to closing time, and someone was filling out paper work on a gun.

$280 new would have to be an Express gun. There are a ton of variants of the Express, and Remington changes them around all the time. See http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/shotguns/model_870/ and look at the list of Express models available. Maybe that will help you clear things up...

The standard model you find for that price is an Express with 26" or 28" barrel with one Mod screw in choke. The models with 18.5" barrel have synthetic stocks.

Get the one with the laminated stock--it comes with 3 choke tubes.

The plastic stocked one only comes with one choke tube--but gives you a better recoil pad.

26 or 28in barrels---3in chamber---4+1 shots

The 20ga Youth model is the same price. 21in barrel. 13'' LOP---you could get by with this one just by adding a Skeet choke tube.

Been lookin at em myself.

Try to double check the model number of the gun against Remington's information, you would ideally want a barrel with a built in choke of the IC (Improved cylinder kind) for slug duty.

I have a marine mag 870 but that was going to double your initial cost estimate.

My wife chose a Mossberg 500 Bantam as her weapon of choice in the 20 gauge. It's not a "LIttle" gun. Both guns can do HD effectively.

It could have been the express turkey model that has a 21" barrel with interchangable chokes. This is a neat compromise that can be used for defense and hunting.

could very well be the turkey. The barrel looked rather short.
