My father bought this shotgun yesterday at the same time I bought mine and he is having some trouble with it. I looked it over for him but I really couldn't offer much help since I am new to shotguns, so hopefully you all can help with this one like you did with my Remington 870. The High Standard Shadow is a semi-auto 12g for those that don't know, and the problem he is having with it is double feeding. When you rack the bolt back it will pull two shells out of the mag tube and they will both be flopping around in the chamber. If you all know where I can get a manual for that thing online it would help, but that might be difficult because I can't find much information at all. Thanks for any help you all can offer. I will check it out as well as I can with the information you all offered me on the Remington 870 but since this is a semi some other things will probably be a factor.

Just got back from the skeet range and it cycled the shells fine. No double feeds or anything so I guess its okay. We did get quite a few light strikes from the firing pin though. It got progressively worse to the point where none of the rounds were going off. I'm guessing it just needs a good cleaning, and I will go from there if that doesn't work.

I'd say you're getting worse problem. You're looking now at a host of possibles. If you can fully dissessemble when you clean it would help. A website with model manuals for high standard is:
http://www.histandard.info/manuals/hpashotguns/
You could be looking at a cartridge stop for your first problem, so check this first.
You're second problem is more than likely from a bad firing pin spring or hammer spring.

Thanks for the link to the manuals. I took it apart earlier today and it was very dirty inside. Anyway I cleaned everything and everything seems to be working much better. The hammer felt weak and gritty so I cleaned all the junk out of the spring it and it is a lot smoother and swings harder now. The firing pin felt real gritty as well so I cleaned it out, and lubed the spring lightly and it seems to be working easily now as well. I will post back as soon as we get the opportunity to try it out again.

Update: It's still not working correctly. It will fire most of the time but there is still the occasional light strike. The hammer spring still feels weak compared to my nova, so I'm assuming someone just left the gun cocked for a long period of time and weakened the spring. Can we still get parts for this thing? If so, where? Neither Brownells or Midway has anything. I stretched the hammer spring out some tonight and it made the hammer drop harder so that might have helped for now, but it will still need a new spring as soon as possible.

That was the first thing I did. Apparently this particular model is very rare. I can't find anything for it. Luckily I think I can get any springs that are needed a spring supply. Or a hammer spring from another gun might work.
