3 bullets walk into a bar. (Bullet Selction ?)

I have 3 different bullets for .308 Win. All are 168 grain Boat Tail Hollow Points.
Is there any way to quickly get an idea of which one works the best? Would simply picking 1 charge weight of 1 powder and seeing which bullet shot best be a fair comparison? Sierra, Hornady & Nosler are the bullet manufacturers.

The rifle has a heavy 26" barrel (Stock Remington). I have shot some sub 1/2 moa groups with it; prone & bipod no bags. To be frank I'm the weak link here. A rear bag & better shooting would probably be bigger factors in the equation. One of my groups opened up to almost 2 moa when some AK shooters let loose right next to me, still good to know what it did.

Like wise would finding the best bullet & then changing powders be a fair comparison? One problem at this point is not having a chrono, I can't match a velocity from 1 powder to another. So far I have ignored velocity.

I'm going to try shooting a Ladder soon to see what that does.

Thanks,
WNTFW

I would buy the cheapest one and tailor a load to it.

Edit- Sorry, I reread and saw you already had the bullets.

Shaggy,
You picked up that I'm cheap from that post, good call. :D

Excellent point that price could be a consideration. The Noslers were given to me to try by a friend based on the fact they are cheaper. $4.00 bucks cheaper a box would make a difference if the accuaracy was equal (or better). I wouldn't give up much accuracy though for $4.00. No sense paying more to get the same accuaracy.

Availability has become an issue lately. So availability is a factor.

Across the wide range of calibers, the Sierra will genrally, repeat, generally be more accurate. The only way to find out is to work with each bullet to see which is more accurate.

Having said that, I have seen exception where the primer made the bigger difference and others where the load or the powder made the difference in accuracy.

Shoney,
I have a friend that is a high power shooter and a good one. He said you can get bullets to shoot better than a SMK, it is just easier to get SMKs to shoot well.

I'll just have to be patient and keep working up the loads. I could also use the practice.

Thanks for the replies,

Theory can get you an idea, but real world testing is the only way to know.
