How much would it cost to install chokes on a HD shotgun.

Less than $100. Get Mike Orlen to do it for you. I'll have to find a link to his website, but you might do a search and find it quicker.

I don't know what they charge now- last barrel I had done was $70 IIRC. Check with http://www.colonialarms.com/index.html for prices.

Perhaps better known than Colonial are Briley ( http://www.briley.com/ ) and Nu-Line ( http://www.nulineguns.com/index.php ). It pays to shop around...

But you might be better off leaving the barrel 'as is' and trying some different buckshot loads. The Federal Premium or LE loads with the FliteControl wad almost always throw wicked tight patterns. I have one factory Remington 18" Police CYL bore barrel that reliably shoots Federal LE 127-00 into 4" or less at 25 yards.

I have found choke tubes to be grossly overrated. True they make it so you can better customize loads and patterns but I do not feel at a loss when all I have is a fixed modified.

That said I had some work done by Mike Orlen a few years back and it was done well and turnaround time was good as well.

I'd just get another barrel. Keep the HD barrel simple.

I don't mind the versatility, but a big part of me can't stand screw-in chokes. They get loose, they get dirty and have to be cleaned. Blah.

Here ya go.
Normally about a three day turn-around.
$125 with three tubes and 2 wrenches.

I guess that would depend on the shotgun.

Most brands, though, make 20" turkey barrels that have better sights for the purpose than a ribless 18" barrel with a bead.

What gun do you have? Remington makes 21" VR twin bead barrels fitted for RemChokes for turkey guns that are good for all sorts of uses as well as turkeys.
