I just picked up two packs of the 245 grain sabots and havent had a chance to get to the range with them. I used to use powerbelts and after doing a lot of reading, I have been sold on the idea of sabots. My question is this: when you load the low drag sabots, do you guys use bore butter each time, or some of the time, or simply just some good ol fashioned elbow grease???
Thanks

I have used those sabots in my CVA Buckhorn, and put four shots in a three inch circle at 50 yds. As far as lube goes, I very sparingly wipe the sabots with Crisco, and load. Many others have their own special lubes, and they may all perform for them very well. I started my BP days in 1958, and Crisco is all we had then. Some of this new stuff may be as good or better, but I go with nostalgia. By the way that load was 70gr 777, and the SST sabot. I have that target, and if I can figure out how to scan it, and get it one the thread, I'll submit it.

thats probobly a good way to do it. I had a buddy that would smear a glob of bore butter on the end of the muzzle around the crown area before each shot, and that didnt seem right. perhaps i will just lightly coat the outside of each sabot in bore butter.

Another method would be to apply an ultra light coating only to the upper portion of the barrel with a lubed patch after loading the powder.

ten-four arcticap. I guess "light" is the magic word when it comes to applying bore butter or equivalent then.
