Voted "No, it was a mistake the first time and existing gun laws are enough."

Incidentally, I also voted for Obama in the election. I figured he'd back off the assault weapons thing. Check out this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30389664/

This has been posted many times before, but I'll post it again. Don't post a direct link to a poll in the forum. Post it as text, and people can copy and paste it into their browser. If anyone hosting the poll checks they can see the referring sight and potentially throw out all referrals from here as invalid.

With that said, I've voted and we're at 63.7%

And regarding that MSNBC article, don't believe for a second that Obama won't try to push through another ban as soon as he feels it's politically feasible. It will come either after midterm elections or after he's reelected.

I voted earlier today. I will bet that MSNBC does not report the poll results if they don't agree with them. American media at its finest.

Yes. We had the ban for 10 years.
He should use up whatever political
capital is necessary to reinstate the ban.

No. It was a mistake the first time
around and it would be a mistake
again. Existing gun laws are enough.

Maybe. Owning a gun is a right, but
I'm conflicted as to whether or not
average Americans should be able
to own assault weapons.

I just wanted to point out that, of the reasons given at the beginning of each option, the reason for the AWB is the most pathetic. Just because it existed for 10 years is no reason to reinstate it. It is quite transparent that MSNBC could not formulate a solid reason that it should be reinstated other than 'we did it once before'.:neener:

Yet another example of how many American Citizens do not understand the reasoning behind the 2nd amendment. We MUST do a better job educating our youth about what happened in history. The Founding Fathers of our country, the folks that came up with our entire system of government used the Constitution to set the boundaries within which the government was going to be allowed to exist. They had lived first hand under a government that had gotten too big, and too controlling. Our culture of entitlement has led to a large portion of our citizens believing we are somehow entitled to being 'looked after' by our government. On the contrary, it's the other way around, we're supposed to look after our government, and keep it in check so it doesn't become too big. As a whole, we have gotten lazy, and the big monster government will gobble up all the power we allow it too.

Folks, when President Obama spoke at his inaugural address, he spoke about change, and he spoke about Americans changing our mindset and our daily habits, and not being so dependant on the government. Everyone cheered, and the very next day, everyone went back to looking for handouts from the government. Pretty sad.

I did not vote for him. But I am an American, and a patriot. I want to see our country prosper, and to that end, I wish him success in doing what he can to help restore prosperity to this great country I am proud to call home. Sadly, I don't think his actions since the election have taken us in the right direction. But that's just my opinion, based on my value system.

The cost of freedom is eternal vigilance.

I read the "Yes" comments and the "No" comments
Its funny. All the no answers come from people who are up to date on crime stats, laws etc...
All the No answers come from people who know nothing about gun control and just think guns are bad.
I saw many people calling them "automatic weapons".
And comments like "If we don't ban them, the cops are outgunned unless they start carrying them too... the last thing I ever want to see is our police with AK"
... Most police officers have AR-15's now... And police are not going to use AK's.
It just stuns me to hear words like this. Maybe people should research before they voice there "facts"

When are they going to quit using the AW word? Of course when they use that term they're going to get people who don't know any better to answer "yes."

Yet another example of how many American Citizens do not understand the reasoning behind the 2nd amendment.
I'm not so sure many people don't understand.
I think what you see at these polls and such
are simply the few antis left who set out to 'work' these polls
and forums, just like a few pro gun activist do.

What I'm seeing is a shift and I think that MORE
people understanding what 1a is really all about.
It's just those few antis scream louder and are more organized.
They really can't back up any of their assertions as to why
we should not be allowed to own semi auto weapons.
The weapons they wish to ban are NOT assault weapons in the first place,
so they are WRONG the moment the open their mouths to begin with.
