This afternoon got around at last to taking top off a large tree - which is part ways dead and uncomfortably close to shop, office etc at bottom of yard.

Main thing was to take off two quite large sections .. so with step son's help ... roped up as high as we could reach then ..... up I go twice on ladder with chain saw - to make the cuts below that, he keeping strain on rope from a distance to control any premature fall.

Both worked out just fine but ..... warm enough for T shirt ..... and so piece was (as often, at home) just open carry.

Hmmmm ...... end of the operation found hammer slot well filled with shavings and wood dust!!! I was el stupido ... shoulda removed piece or had it covered ... Duh!! :banghead:

Stripped it and used compressed air to blow out any residue and gave thoro clean ... all is well now.

So - moral of this is ....... take it off or keep it covered!!

My ineptitude quite amazes me at times!!:p :D

I guess there is a reason the military uses flap holsters. No harm, no foul.
Shoot well and often.

I always leave mine nearby at ground level, protected from falling objects, but accessible after I fall out of the tree. That way, I don't fall on it.

Heh- wife with scoped rifle on the roof usually covers me when involved in such activity... seriously..the last time I had any concern like this was when I was putting up a new fence.. sawdust everywhere

I was hauling grain for my folks one time, carrying in a similar manner. At the end of the day, there was dust and chaff all over my handgun. I felt that it wasn't a problem, considering that my ultra-fast draw would clear the gun off quickly and simply. (I wish.) No harm, no foul.

FWIW, there were a bunch of us working at a local cemetary, beautifying it up for memorial day, when one of our neighbors took out his shotgun and used it to top the trees. Actually worked OK for the smaller ones.
