There are some very lonely gun enthusiasts in this world of gun boards. They are the folks who have never left the reservation. They have some knowledge of the outside world thanks to the geography map in the "school" tepee, it showing various shaped areas called States, and for the fantastic new tool - the internet - with its wonderous gun board threads that appear to be written by gun enthusiasts who are off the reservation.

These folks write of many interestings things. They often cite (quote) the writings of others, and also oft-times (but not always), provide links to original authors' texts to enhance understanding. BUT... these lonely enthusiasts are most perplexed by citations where the town, city, or wide-spot-in-the-road - the byline - is a place not normally shown on their school map. They wonder how they could put a pin in that map about where that event occurred.

They wonder, too, if others have trouble pinning their maps.

So they ask those gun enthusiasts who write such great material and cite others, to PLEASE identify in their text at least the state where-in the event happened or the citation emanated. Many on-line versions of newspapers don't always show their state - county or small-town media, for example.

This lonely "reservationist" wants to know - and learn.

[Lena Lenape (sp) - is/was a NJ tribe. The reservation (above) is fictitious. This post, hopefully will catch your attention and help identify the location of many future citations where their location isn't clear.

I haven't travelled the U.S. enough to know where every town fits in what state.]

BTW: I no longer live in NJ. And I am thankful for that since NJ is not the place today that I knew as a child and teen. I believe this qualifies as a political statement.

Let's see if I can clarify.

Many citations (usually material posted by us that are authored by others) show a town or city, but no state (or country). It would really help if, when the state/country isn't obvious, that we'd take the time to include it in the reply.

I cannot tell you how many times I wished I could see where the poster of a topic is from, particularly when they mention some anti-gun political nonsense / attitude where they live. It's very frustrating. Post your location folks!

I THINK that the article makes something of a point. A lot of times we cite things with absolutly no clue as to WHERE the particular event occured. Considering the WIDE political and legal differences between localities especially concerning firearms this is pretty important. I cant even tell you how sick i am of people asking "is this legal?" without even identifying what state they are in. And whats even better is when people answer "yes" or "no" without having that information.

And i agree that too much anonymity can be a bad thing.

I do not understand the animosity type tones to some posts.

My location has nothing to do with citation locations - unless, of course, I provide no location with a citation that I provide, that in itself, shows no state/country.

Just a friendly observation: you have a great career ahead of you in communications or media relations, or whatever they're calling it these days. I mean, your individual words make sense (except for maybe "citation," but I think I understand that term), but when you string them together they take on an almost indecipherable quality of their own. You have a gift.
