friend of mine has a Mossberg 500 security model 20" bbl full length tube.

-when i look at the website it says this gun holds 8 rounds but when he loads it he can only get seven 2-3/4 winchester game loads in it with number 8 almost making it but not quite.

do they mean 7+1=8 or just eight?

-secondly we/he haven't been able to get the mag tube off despite repeated soakings w/penetrating oil (yes we kept the ammo away from the oil) he bought the gun used and the seller hadn't "had it out" for about five years previous. :uhoh: are there any techniques besides torque and lube we should use here?

any suggestions on either point would be greatly appreciated thanks

7+1.
And penetrating oil is all you should need give it time.
With the barrel off and with no visible corrosion or thread-locker on the mag tube threads, it really should take nothing more than a firm hand grip.
If you find yourself reaching for steel tools - STOP, and let it soak another day.

I had a hard time taking the mag tube off my 500 the first time I tried it. Here's a suggestion: sit on the floor with the gun in front of you. Place your feet on the receiver and use your hands to twist the mag tube off. I find that using one of those rubber "jar openers" really helps.

Oh yes, make sure it's unloaded before you try it!

use a strap wrench on the mag tube.
